DescriptionGeneral SummaryInstalls, repairs, modifies, and opens a variety of locking mechanisms found on doors, desks, compartments, mobile equipment, safes, and vaults.Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Examines locking mechanism and installs new unit or disassembles unit and replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts or repairs them by filing, drilling, chiseling and grinding.

Opens door locks by moving lock pick in cylinder or opens safe locks by listening to lock sounds or by drilling.

Changes combination by inserting new or repaired tumblers into lock. Cut new or duplicate keys using impressions or code key machines.

Disassemble mechanical or electrical locking devices, and repair or replace worn tumblers, springs, and other parts, using hand tools.

Keep records of locks and keys. Establishes and maintains master key systems for buildings.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Skills and Requirements

Certified, bonded locksmith

Work Environment

Occasional and/or light lifting requiredlimited exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., but none to the point of being disagreeable.

May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
