Job Posting DetailsThis position is for the Engineering and Maintenance Manager at the Brandon Shores and H.A. Wagner power plant Complex that supports engineer functions at both plants and the maintenance department at Brandon Shores in Baltimore, MD. The plants include Brandon Shores power plant (2x 650 MW coal fired) and H.A. Wagner power plant (4 units burning gas & oil). This position supports the plants through engineering and maintenance of their major equipment that include the boiler and turbine/generator systems and balance of plant equipment. The team will include engineers, labor supervision and 8-10 cross-train maintenance techs (mechanical and I&E).Job SummaryThe purpose of the Engineering and Maintenance Manager position is to oversee all engineering, capital and maintenance projects as well as provide support to the plant’s operations department for operational issues for all plant equipment for Talen Energy’s Brandon Shores and Wagner power plants.Primary Responsibilities

Primary responsibility is to maintain the plant’s equipment including managing all resources needed to perform capital and maintenance work at the plant.

Manage resources and budget for work performed on this major equipment during planned and unplanned unit outages. Provide strategic direction for effective utilization of resources to minimize negative impact on customers and maximize efficiencies during outages.

Manage a team of 4 to 6 direct reports.

Manage, through a direct report, a team of approximately 20 maintenance technicians that perform most of the key maintenance work for the safe and reliable operation of the plant.

Determine appropriate use of contractors to supplement Company work force. Manages contractor resources to ensure compliance with Company standards and policies/procedures.

Manage work planning for outages related to this major and BOP equipment at these plants. Provide services and support to foster customer loyalty through daily management and attention to achieve customer satisfaction.

Prioritize and assign engineering support for operational issues, maintenance, and modifications of major and balance of plant (BOP) equipment at these plants.

Identify new capital projects and develop the required paperwork for project justification and authorization.

Manage a construction project from development through closeout. Review/Negotiate Engineering and Construction style contracts (including specification/bidding/awarding, execute project kick-off meetings with all stake holders; manage the start-up, construction and turnover phase). Support the closeout of the project and all related contracts.

Facilitate communication as appropriate and manage the stakeholders and develop routine project reports for key stakeholders. Ensure all project requirements and/or objectives are properly documented in a business case and/or project brief, as appropriate. Track and report progress and forecast final targets. Document all obstacles, delays and claims.

Resolve technical issues related to major equipment operation of the plant.

Participate in root cause and apparent cause analysis to understand and correct plant issues.

Responsible for development and maintenance of the five-year capital and maintenance plans for plant equipment and manage the Brandon Shores routine, outage, and capital budgets.

Support balance of plant equipment maintenance.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.

10 Years of related power plant experience.

Five or more years of management and supervision of professional personnel and hourly technicians.

Demonstrated knowledge of project management, OSHA and ASME Boiler Code requirements.

Demonstrated written, listening, and oral communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others.

Demonstrated commitment to continuous performance improvement.

Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with external customers in difficult and sensitive situations.

Ability to promote teamwork and model team behavior.

Demonstrated PC literacy and keyboard skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Engineer Certification preferred.
