Position Overview At the University of Minnesota, we are dedicated to changing lives through research, education, and outreach. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) the University s central IT department offers an environment of trust, collaboration, and mission-focused work. Join our team and help us make a positive difference to the University as an experienced Network Engineer. The Network Engineer will also focus on high-level data network Infrastructures and services provided by OIT. Including security, IPAM, VPN WIfi, Network Authorization Processes, Load Balancing, and campus backbone routing/switching operational implementation, maintenance, and support. The Network Engineer works closely with other areas of OIT, customers, and vendors with the ultimate goal of successfully implementing network technologies and continual support of all network services provided by the University s Office of Information Technology.

We are seeking candidates who have the qualifications and experience to serve as subject matter experts at either firewall OR EfficiantIP IP Address Management System (IPAM).

Job Responsibilities: Manage operational delivery
  • Subject matter expert on Fortinet Firewall systems OR EfficientIP IP Address Management System (IPAM) among other network technologies.
  • Perform configuration management, provisioning, new product and service implementations, service shutdowns, and other hardware and software changes.
  • Provide network management support and tool support and development.
  • Manage and configure network management tools, IPAM, VPN, WiFi services, netflow, raditacacs/ Shibboleth, snmp and other systems that support OIT services.
  • Install, Configure and troubleshoot the following: campus backbone network, network firewalls, and ACLs; external campus and Internet connectivity.
  • Perform analysis, documentation, and communication needed to maintain high operational availability.
Technical and customer support
  • Provide technical leadership to areas within OIT as both an operations entity and a third-tier on-call support engineer.
  • Maintain and promote professional relationships with peers, supervisors, customers, and other departments, both within OIT and the greater University.
  • Provide after hours on-call support.
  • Analyze, design, and development code written in Perl, Python, C, and vendor specific scripting, including Oracle and web interface tools to support current and new product deployments.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor s degree and five years of relevant experience or a comparable combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Excellent collaboration skills.
  • Fortinet Firewall systems experience.
  • Progressively more responsible work experience in network operations and
management in a large environment.
  • Experience performing network troubleshooting and overseeing implementations and
network changes.
  • Experience with several of the following network technologies: BGP, MPLS, Firewalls,
ACLs, TCP/IP, Ethernet, Routing, Switching, VLAN, VXLAN, OSPF, QOS, 802.1x, IPv6
  • Design and implementation experience with network technologies and products
including: security products Firewalls, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, NTP, VPN, SNMP, VoIP.
