Position Type: Part-Time (20-25 Hours a week scheduled during our business hours of 8am-5pm Monday-Friday - No Weekends).

Hourly Rate: $15.00-$20.00 Based on experience.

Reports To: Yard Manager

Job Overview:

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Heavy Equipment Yard Hand to maintain and clean our fleet of heavy machinery, including excavators, wheel loaders, dozers, and other sorts of units. The ideal candidate will be responsible for using a power washer to clean equipment, as well as learning to operate heavy equipment, keeping it in optimal condition, ensuring that machines are free from dirt and debris, and that batteries do not die due to lack of use. Additionally, this position involves various yard duties to keep the site organized to ensure the smooth operation of day-to-day activities, and organization of our equipment, yard, and tools, while maintaining safety as the number one priority. Potential to grow into a full time role for the right candidate.

Making Equipment Marketable

Use power washers to clean excavators, wheel loaders, dozers, and other heavy machinery when needed. Ensure equipment is properly cleaned such as removing dirt, mud, and debris from tracks, along with excess grease, using degreasers, Dakota Shine, and other products and equipment to ensure a marketable machine. Decal/application removal along with greasing the units grease points. Will be responsible for accessing water from our pond/fire hydrant. Taking and uploading pictures and videos of units into our google drive folders.

Battery Maintenance:

Start and operate turning machines and other equipment on a rotating basis to ensure batteries do not die. Maintain a log of equipment that has been operated and inform the supervisor. Replace batteries in both 12V and 24V systems. Ensure battery purchase invoices have proper inventory identification for approval by the finance team. Testing batteries with load testers to see if they need to be replaced. Ensure battery charger batteries are fully charged and ready to be installed. Notifying supervisor when stock batteries need to be ordered. Make sure jump boxes are charged/charging when not in use.

Yard Organization & Maintenance:

Assist with maintaining the overall cleanliness and organization of the yard. This may include sweeping, picking up debris, organizing equipment, weed whacking, throwing away trash into the dumpster, organizing tools, supplies, fluids, and parts, marking what we have and what we need. Will also require moving and operating equipment around the yard, ensuring optimal use of space.

General Yard Duties:

Assist in loading and unloading machines by ground guiding (will not be operating units on/off trucks). Perform minor repairs such as replacing batteries or topping off fluids. Upon training also will be touching up paint on units, and applying decals . Performing maintenance tasks when needed (e.g., checking tire pressure, adding fuel, etc.).

Inventory Management:

Help monitor and track equipment and tools in the yard. Notify the supervisor of any missing or damaged items.

Safety Compliance:

Follow all safety guidelines and procedures while operating machinery and performing yard duties. Maintain a clean and safe work environment, reporting any hazards or unsafe conditions to the supervisor immediately. Wearing PPE, maintaining OSHA standards in the work place.

Other Duties as Assigned:

Perform other tasks related to yard and equipment maintenance as needed.

Qualifications:

Experience:

Prior experience in operating or servicing heavy equipment in a yard or similar environment is preferred but not required.

Skills:

Ability to use power washers and basic yard tools. General mechanical aptitude is a plus,willingness to learn is required.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift heavy objects in excess of 50lb, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and stand for extended periods.

Certifications:

A valid driver’s license is required, reliable transportation to the job site in Crofton MD, CDL is a plus but not required.

Personal Attributes:

Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a proactive attitude. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
