Applicants may apply 90 days prior to receipt of their degree, however, the effective date of the appointment cannot be prior to their graduation date.Function Statement:The overall function of this position is to assist the Project Engineer in the supervision of sub-professional engineering staff. Work is generally performed in-doors, but is not limited to in-doors, out-door work may be required in various weather and terrain conditions, depending upon the nature of each assignment. Some night time, weekend and holiday work days may be required. This position is located in the District 07, Unit 217 Sulphur Project Engineer’s Office of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Engineer 6/Project Engineer. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service Laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.The incumbent is required to possess the following specialized knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensing/certifications:Specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities: Must possess the ability to plan, design, construct, inspect, and/or maintain buildings, systems, or programs by applying advanced mathematics, physical, and engineering sciences.Required Licenses/Certifications: Louisiana Professional Engineering License, or Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate, Possess valid Louisiana Class “E” Driver’s License.Drug Testing required: N/ATypes of equipment used for the job: Computer, cell phone, tablet, surveying equipment, pickup truck.Job Duties & Responsibilities:Engineer Intern 1 – Differs from Engineer Intern Applicant by the presence of a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Participates in pre-construction conferences and progress meetings with engineers and contractors to discuss construction scheduling, methods of construction and any potential problems.25% Performs various office engineering functions including review of correspondence, engineering calculations, documentation of quantities, daily work reports, daily diaries, and test reports. Assists in preparing and processing monthly partial pay estimates, change orders, closeout documentation for final project acceptance.10% Reviews and recommends changes to plans and specifications for upcoming construction projects that are designed by others.
