Supplemental InformationAbout this position:This position performs advanced level duties in the safe and efficient operation of bulk cargo handling at the Sulphur, LA Bulk Terminal #1 facility within Lake Charles Harbor & Terminal District (Port of Lake Charles). Duties include loading and unloading commodities/bulk cargo from rail cars, trucks, ships, barges or storage facilities, operating mobile equipment, heavy machinery and providing truck escorts. Performance of these duties requires manual, physical labor, work in a dirty environment, outdoors and around waterfront. NOTE REGARDING THE ADVERTISED PAY:This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and may be filled as a . Job ConceptsFunction of Work:To assist in the handling of bulk cargo and to become familiar with the operation and maintenance of bulk terminal machinery and equipment.Level of Work:Entry.Supervision Received:Direct from Bulk Terminal Foreman.Supervision Exercised:None.Location of Work:Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District.Job Distinctions:Differs from Bulk Terminal Specialist 2 by the absence of sufficient knowledge and skill to operate equipment and machinery and independently perform bulk cargo handling tasks.Examples of WorkBecomes familiar with the operation of equipment used in maintenance operations.Greases and oils rollers, bearings, shafts, and other equipment mechanisms.Cleans machinery, equipment, including heavy mobile equipment, and working areas.Cleans cargo spills.Assists technicians, mechanics, and other skilled workers in bulk cargo handling and maintenance activities.Becomes familiarized and obtains skill in the operation of machinery and equipment, including heavy mobile equipment, used at the facility.Assists in tasks such as grass cutting, shoveling, minor carpentry, welding, or plumbing repairs and general upkeep of the grounds.Louisiana State Government represents a wide variety of career options and offers an outstanding opportunity tomake a differencethrough public service.
