Senior Web Developer / Programmer

Develops and supports web applications including but not limited to those applications linked to the College’s enterprise data systems, client-server applications, and the equipment running those applications as well as the web-based processes used by students, faculty and staff. Supervises Junior Developer and supervises students when applicable. This position is supervised by the Associate Director for ITS.General Responsibility: The Web Developer/Programmer will provide direct support of constituents who use network and client-server applications in the performance of their responsibilities. This support will require program development as well as troubleshooting the applications environment. A key component of the individual’s responsibilities will be to assist in the implementation of academic and administrative tools within the College’s Centrenet portal and to interface those features with the primary enterprise database – Jenzabar CX. Supervises Junior Developer to ensure work is synchronized and projects are delivered on time.Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and support tools used by ITS and other administrative offices that employ the Jenzabar-CX database, the Centrenet portal and its mobile apps.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the database server and web servers used by the Jenzabar system. (SUSE Linux, MS Windows Server, Informix, MS SQL Server, IIS, Apache, MySQL and PostgreSQL)
  • Provide direct support to the managers and end users of the Jenzabar-CX administrative database environment in those modules employing the activities of the Centrenet portal and its mobile applications.
  • Support the existing portal activities linked to the college’s enterprise database environment and adapt the vendor-provided activities to incorporate college business rules.
  • Develop new web applications for the college portal consistent with the environment, deploying them, and providing training and assistance to users.
  • Implement appropriate modifications to the database software by customizing record and table structures, data entry screens, reports and scripts.
  • Implement and provide support for portal security, identity management and authentication services, e.g. SSO, SSL, ADLDS and portal permissions.
  • Implement and provide support for Database Analytics and report writing. (SSRS, Cognos, Informix)
  • Support the academic program and the administrative computing environment by responding to and resolving requests for assistance from faculty and administrative staff.
  • Implement and provide support for Moodle LMS system that is integrated with the Jenzabar Portal.
  • Implement and provide support for Qualtrics services that interact with the Jenzabar-CX system.
  • Supervisors work and performance of other web developers as assigned.

Marginal Job Functions:
  • Assist in the maintenance of an accurate inventory record of all technology equipment.
  • Assist the Associate Director for ITS in the delivery of support services to all end users of the Jenzabar-CX system.
  • Develop forms and scripts for use in batch processing database updates.
  • Assist the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning with the support of academic computing.
  • Perform other non-specified duties as required at the direction of the Associate Director for ITS and/or the Director for ITS and CIO
Education and Experience
  • A baccalaureate degree in computer science, information systems, or an appropriate discipline.
  • Experience using networked software applications for word processing, spreadsheets, database, e-mail, and web browsing.
  • Minimum of 5 years xperience with modern programming languages, e.g. Java, C#

    .NET, C, PERL and SQL.
  • Experience with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, JSON and other web technologies.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience supporting Jenzabar systems, ideally CX.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Competent working skills in the Windows, Mac and appropriate versions of UNIX operating system.
  • Familiarity with the design of and the discrete structures within the Jenzabar-CX enterprise system and its Informix database platform, both their structure and functionality.
  • Experience in a modern program development environment for client-server applications.
  • Ability to work in a team environment providing support for a diverse constituency of users, including students, faculty and administrative staff.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Some lifting, pulling, and pushing of computer equipment is necessary. Some equipment exceeds 50 pounds and requires appropriate handling procedures.
  • Mobility on campus to various office locations required.
