SCHEDULE:FTE: .1, Shifts are typically 12 hours and could include 0900-2100, 0730-1930, or 1930-0730.JOB DUTIES: Provides support to the emergency department physicians. Assesses, diagnoses, manages, and treats patients of any age who present to the Emergency Room with any symptom, illness, injury, or condition. Responsible for ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, including laboratory studies, diagnostic images (x-rays), and electrocardiographic examinations. Renders services necessary to ameliorate minor illnesses or injuries and stabilize patients with major illnesses or injuries and determine if further care is necessary. Can administer medications and request consultations by qualified persons. May write brief admission orders, but will not participate in the long-term care of patients on an inpatient basis. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Experience, and Training

Iowa Board of Nursing Certification as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the Specialty of Certified Nurse Practitioner required.

Must possess current Iowa Registered Nurse License.

Must possess a current DEA registration and State of Iowa Controlled Substances Act registration.

Must possess Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree plus three years of directly related clinical experience.

Must possess Master’s Degree if practicing in an outreach clinic or off-site satellite location.

Previous experience as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in a clinical and/or nursing home setting preferred.

Must possess the ability to function independently under general guidance of the supervising Physician and the policies and procedures of the institution.

Must possess and demonstrate critical thinking skills.

Must maintain emotional stability in emergency situations.

Must possess valid certifications as determined by hospital privilege delineation.

Ability to learn and navigate computer systems including the online training modules, the employee timesheet and the performance appraisal system. Job specific systems are also required.

Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English.

Physical Requirements

Sitting – Approximately 25% of shift.

Standing – Approximately 50% of shift.

Walking – Approximately 25% of shift.

Lifting – Approximately 25 pounds.

Twisting – Infrequent.

Bending – Infrequent.

Squat/Kneel – Not a requirement.
