Great Plains Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church seeks Pastor IV (multiple openings). The Pastor IV may be appointed to a United Methodist Church located anywhere within the Great Plains Annual Conference spanning the following BLS areas: Kansas City, MO-KS; Kansas Nonmetropolitan Area; Lawrence, KS; Manhattan, KS; St. Joseph, MO-KS; Wichita, KS; Topeka, KS; Grand Island, NE; Lincoln, NE; Northeast Nebraska Nonmetropolitan Area, Northwest Nebraska Nonmetropolitan Area, Omaha Council Bluffs, NE-IA; Sioux City, IA-NE-SD; South Nebraska Nonmetropolitan Area.
Responsibilities: The Pastor IV is responsible for conducting religious worship services; preparing and delivering worship services and sermons; leading the worship praise team; preparing and leading Bible study groups; preparing for and participating in District and Conference meetings; providing spiritual counseling to the general congregation; providing guidance and leadership to church members; meeting the church members in times of special need; ministering to the ill and infirm, which sometimes may require limited travel to their homes or health care facilities; performing and conducting religious services and other religious events such as funerals, weddings, and baptisms; coordinating members to lead and support various functions of the church including janitorial, administrative, musical, technological, or childcare duties; and other duties as assigned.
Please note: Limited local travel within approximately 25 miles of worksite is required for visits to nursing homes, hospitals, and congregation members' homes. Limited regional travel within Kansas and Nebraska is required a few times a year for meetings with district superintendents and annual conference meetings.
Education: Master’s degree in Divinity, Theology, Theological Studies, or related field (or foreign equivalent).
Special Requirements: Knowledge of the United Methodist Church’s theology and doctrine as established by the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church; Must be licensed for pastoral ministry or recognized or ordained as either a full member, provisional member, member in full connection, elder, or deacon of the United Methodist Church or its approved affiliates/partners in full connection/communion, or be able to obtain within 12 months of hire.
