Employment Type:Part timeShift:Rotating ShiftDescription:Our unit is a post-op surgical unit for general and orthopedic surgery with and average daily census around 25. The unit provides pre- and post-op nursing care, patient teaching, and discharge collaboration. Patients range from adolescent to geriatric in age. Common orthopedic diagnoses include: same-day joint replacement, spinal fusions, and surgical repair for sport injuries, medical and surgical care for trauma and post ICU. We also specialize in general abdominal and laparoscopic surgery, genitourinary, ENT, cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries, gynecological procedures, plastics, oral surgery, and diagnostic interventions. CNA’s have ability for self-scheduling. Minimum requirements for PRN are a summer and winter holiday along with 5 weekend shifts in a 6 week period. Weekend and holiday shifts must be 8 hours, but shifts during the week can range from 4-12 hours depending on the desire of the employee. In our virtual care team model, each cna is apart of a 3 person care team with the bedside RN and the virtual RN. This allows for ratios of 1:6 for the team. With lowered ratios for the CNA is allows them to work to the top of their scope and have a profound impact on the patients they encounter.Our staff is highly energized and engaged on our fast-paced unit, and we have high patient and staff satisfaction scores.The Nurse Assistant (NA) is a member of the MercyOne Dubuque/Dyersville Medical Center healthcare team and is under the direct supervision of a registered professional nurse. NAs provide holistic, compassionate, individualized, and effective patient care by assisting the patient with activities of daily living. Nurse Assistant (NA) also provide other physical, emotional, and spiritual needs consistent with the Mission of MercyOne, Vision of Patient Care Services, evidence-based standards of care, and established policies and procedures.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAssist with the physical needs of patients. Demonstrate ability to understand and follow directions. Provide physical, emotional, and spiritual care to the patient population with respect to age specific and culturally sensitive needs as described in the department’s scope of service. Record and report information such as vital signs, intake and output, weight, and any behavioral changes to appropriate supervisory personnel. Maintain, assemble, and organize equipment needed for a safe secure environment. Assist in mealtime activities by delivering and removing patient trays and feeding patients. Complete routine daily assignments. Perform additional duties as requested such as transporting patients and obtaining medications, supplies, and medical records from other departments. Demonstrate a caring practice by respecting the rights of an individual or group. Demonstrate ability to impact change within your department and with other departments. Demonstrate skills as an effective team member. Respect the confidentiality of an individual or group, unless obligated to disclose under proper authorization or legal requirement. Maintain a safe environment of care. Communicate care effectively in both verbal and written form. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAll Nurse Assistants (other than Senior Care):
Must be at least 16 years of age, Child labor laws are applicable to all minors under the age of 18. May be required to be 18 years of age in some area.
Must meet at least one of the following requirements:
Be active on the Iowa registry (required for long term care nurse assistants in Iowa, and nurse assistants who work in Illinois or Wisconsin are required to be on their respective state’s registry)
Show proof of completion of 75-hour CNA course
Show proof of EMT Certification
Show proof of formally holding (and completed training for) a medical occupation specialty from the military (current or former)
High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) will be required within 30 days of hire and every 2 years thereafter.
Senior Care Nurse Assistant:
Must be at least 16 years of age, Child labor laws are applicable to all minors under the age of 18. May required to be 18 years of age in some area.
Certification in a 75-hour CNA certification program required and be active on the Iowa registry (required for long-term care nurse assistant in Iowa).
High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONSEmployee will work flexible hours. Must be able to work in variable & unpredictable environment. Job requires frequent (21-50% of work time) squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, and balancing, frequent bending/stooping, and reaching above shoulder level, pushing/pulling. Job requires the use of hands for simple and firm grasping and also fine manipulating. Job requires lifting and carrying frequent (21-50% of work time) 11-24 lbs., and occasionally (6-10% of work time) up to 35 lbs. without assistance. May be exposed to marked change in temperature and humidity, infectious diseases, hazardous waste, and chemicals. Must be able to see, speak and hear.
