The successful candidate will have a valid Iowa K-12 Instructional Strategist I (or willingness to obtain it) and a strong background in special education. They will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with learning disabilities and providing academic support to these students in the classroom.The special education teacher will work closely with a team of educators, including regular education teachers, AEA staff, office staff, paraprofessionals, and administration, to ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed academically and socially. Central DeWitt is a 3A school district with a small town feel, but an easy drive to the larger Quad Cities community. Central DeWitt is known for being a leading district in Eastern Iowa in academics and extracurricular opportunities. Central DeWitt is a proud member of the Mississippi Athletic Conference, with a great emphasis on athletics, the fine arts and other student activity opportunities. Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively as part of the Special Ed team
Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs that align with the vision for teaching and learning in the Central DeWitt Community School District and the Iowa Core Standards.
Assess student progress and modify instruction as needed, using data-driven decision-making.
Provide direct instruction and support to students in small groups or one-on-one settings, using evidence-based strategies and interventions.
Communicate with parents and guardians about student progress and needs using multiple methods of communication
Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities, staying up-to-date on best practices in special education
Follow all relevant laws and regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Iowa state special education rules and guidelines.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records and documentation, including IEPs and progress reports
Plan and prepare lesson materials and resources that are accessible and engaging for all students
Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that meets the needs of all students, using trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities, using universal design for learning principles
