Regional Traveling Field Interviewer

Westat is currently seeking motivated individuals with a commitment to excellence to collect data for the Healthy Aging and Life Events study (HALE), funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA). Regional Traveling Field Interviewers will locate and gain cooperation from study participants, a cohort of men and women from the Midwest who are now in their 50s and 60s and have been interviewed periodically over time. They will administer in-depth interviews, cognitive tests, and physical measures as well as collect bio-specimens using Westat equipment including (but not limited to) a laptop computer, smartphone, iPad, and physical assessment tools (e.g., blood pressure monitor, scale stadiometer, and peak air flow meter).

Regional Traveling Field Interviewers will travel between Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky. Travel assignments range between a few days to 1-3 weeks at a time depending on residency and will be assigned on an as-needed bases throughout the entire field period. Regional Traveling Field Interviewers also will generally interview participants in their homes or at a mutually agreed-upon place.

Candidates must:

Be at least 18 years old.

Bachelor’s Degree Preferred.

Be available to attend a mandatory training Monday, October 3, 2022 – Wednesday, October 29, 2022, as follows:

-October 3 – October 8, 2022: Home-based training

-October 10 – October 15, 2022: Web-based training

-October 17 – October 19, 2022: Three days in-person training in Indiana

Be available to complete one to two interviews with Study Staff (web-based or in person) before starting any data collection activities.

Be available to work the data collection period from October 20, 2022 through February 28, 2023.

Be available to work 40 hours per week while on travel assignments, including day, evening and weekend hours to accommodate participant’s preferred availability, when work is available.

Live within 50 miles of a major/national airport and be willing to travel by airplane or drive long distances for work assignments. Depending on place of residency, you may need to drive between 1-3 hours to certain locations in the Midwest.

Be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable

accommodations:

-Lift and carry up to 30 pounds of equipment and materials;

-Walk several blocks;

-Climb a flight of stairs while carrying equipment/materials; and

-Administer the physical measurement component to respondents

Have regular and reliable access to telephone service with a long-distance calling feature, either

landline or cellular.

Have regular and reliable access to a high-speed Internet connection.

Have regular and reliable access to an insured vehicle.

Have a valid (current) driver's license that is not under suspension.

Any offer of employment may be contingent upon receipt of acceptable results from a post-offer background screening, if required for this position, based on the specific position, which may include, for example, identity verification, employment history, motor vehicle driving record history, and criminal or sexual offender records history.

This is a variable hour, non-exempt position not initially eligible for health insurance. This position is eligible for overtime pay. The rate for this position is $23.00 per hour. This position qualifies for sick leave pay based on hours worked.
