Steel Estimator – Steel Fabrication

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Steel Estimator to join our team. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive bids for structural and miscellaneous steel projects. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of steel estimating experience with a strong understanding of fabrication, erection, and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents to prepare detailed cost estimates.

Perform take-offs for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and related materials.

Analyze labor, material, and time requirements to determine accurate project costs.

Work closely with project managers, engineers, and fabrication teams to ensure bid accuracy.

Request, review, and compare subcontractor and vendor quotes.

Prepare proposals, bid packages, and supporting documentation for submission.

Maintain estimating database and historical cost records for continuous improvement.

Collaborate with purchasing to identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative solutions.

Assist with budget development, change orders, and project cost tracking.

Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of experience in steel estimating (structural and/or miscellaneous).

Strong knowledge of steel fabrication, erection, and construction processes.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and technical documents.

Experience with estimating software (FabTrol, Tekla EPM, Bluebeam, or similar) preferred.

Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Excellent analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills.

Strong communication skills for collaboration with internal teams, vendors, and clients.

Preferred Skills

Background in construction or engineering.

Knowledge of industry codes and standards (AISC, AWS, OSHA).

Ability to manage multiple bids and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
