Seven Sons Poultry Supervisor

Location: Seven Sons Farm Roanoke, INSchedule: Average 40 hours/week, 8AM5PM | Weekend work on rotated schedule Reports to: Farm Operations Director

Role Overview:

The Poultry Supervisor will lead the daily operations of our pasture-based laying hen flocks and broiler flocks. This role combines hands-on animal care, crew leadership, and systems management to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality, ethically produced eggs and meat. The right candidate is proactive, practical, and passionate about animal welfare and sustainable food production.

Youll oversee the on going performance of our broiler and hen flocks, maintain infrastructure, and lead our 4-5 part time poultry team membersall while modeling Seven Sons values of stewardship, excellence, and continuous improvement.

No prior poultry or livestock experience required but highly preferredwe hire for character and train for skill.

Core Responsibilities:

Daily Flock Oversight

Lead, manage, and willingness to be held accountable for work performed.

Ensure consistent, humane, and productive flock environments

Monitor flock health, lay rates, weight gains, and mortality.

Ensure functionality of any and all poultry equipment

Coordinate and execute daily mobile coop moves and fencing

Manage feed and water systems to ensure flocks are never without food or water.

Minimize floor eggs & egg breakage through proactive management

Team Leadership & Scheduling

Direct 45 team members on daily tasks and weekly priorities

Build and communicate weekly schedules based on flock needs

Offer feedback and training to promote growth and efficiency

Delegate task assignments based on team members strengths

Equipment & Infrastructure Stewardship

Maintain nest boxes, solar systems, water lines, feeders, fencing, and vehicles

Troubleshoot and solve electric fencing issues

Keep detailed records on production, equipment checks, and issues

Communication & Reporting

Keep Farm Ops Director updated on flock performance and challenges

Submit weekly workflows and metrics using Google Sheets

Help identify opportunities for improvement in operations and systems

Measurable Areas of Effectiveness (KPIs):

Flock Health & Welfare (lay rates, weight gains, mortality, Forage quality.

Task Efficiency & Job Completion

Feed Conversion Ratios & Waste Reduction

Team Leadership & Morale

Consistent Scheduling & Coverage

Preferred Background (but not required):

Farming, Landscaping, construction, or equipment operation

Team leadership in trades, agriculture, or similar industries

Experience working with battery power tools, & electric fencing.

Compensation & Benefits:

Base Salary: $45,000-$55,000 (Depending upon candidate)

$Full Time Food Credit

PTO (see manual for PTO policies)

Work Schedule:

Typical Day: 8 AM 5 PM

Hours per Week: 3545 depending on season

Weekend Work: Weekend work on rotated schedule (Every 3 weeks)

Evening Shifts: Limited to flock removals (34x/year)

Required Qualifications & Attributes:

Ability to lead and collaborate with others

Good judgment and problem-solving skills

Willingness to take responsibility for successes and failures

Ability to lift 50+ lb and perform repetitive tasks in varying weather

Basic mechanical aptitude and eagerness to learn equipment care

Comfort using Google Sheets for records and scheduling

Completion of prerequisite training materials (provided at hiring)

Willingness to work 1 weekend day per week

Occasional evening shifts during flock transitions (710times/year)
