Position Summary:
OB/OR Technician provides clinical expertise in both the delivery room and the OR within Labor and Delivery. Duties may also include clerical support and activities related to personal care and hygiene needs of assigned age-specific population patient group under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Facilitates communication with other departments, visitors, patients, medical staff and employees. Serves a as public relations liaison for the unit.
Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Completion of CNA coursework w/in past 24 months, OR Successful completion of Carle's HCT In Training Program, OR Worked as a CNA w/in past 24 months, OR Successful completion of at least one semester of nursing clinical experiences, OR Documented relevant medical military training. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Demonstrates advance knowledge and proficient practice in the first scrub role in a majority of surgical procedures including complex cases. Applies knowledge of advanced surgical techniques and knowledge related to surgical procedures and emergency situations. Demonstrates critical thinking skills and anticipates the perioperative needs of the patient and surgeon. Exhibits a high level of collaboration with peers in making decisions related to surgical patient care. Understands, values, and promotes perioperative teamwork.
Essential Functions:
Maintains and prepares the Operating Room for surgical procedures. Obtains and sets up sterile field with appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment.
Performs under the direction of the physician during operative procedures to prepare the patient's abdomen, drape the sterile field, and pass instrumentation.
Performs appropriate instrument counts with RN circulator.
Operates stapling device at the request of, and under the direct supervision of, the physician approximating skin closure.
Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
Follows aseptic technique when opening sterile supplies and maintains highest standard of sterile techniques during procedure. Prepares instruments for terminal sterilization after use.
Performs patient support duties under the direction of a RN, which may include, but are not limited to: Performs venipuncture, Obtains vital signs, weights, and/or blood glucose, and Collects, labels, and transports specimens.
