Scientists and engineers in R&D work together to develop, test, and launch products that enhance patient care.What you'll be doingAs a Principal Software Engineer - Wireless Connectivity, you will lead the development of software solutions to challenging problems associated with electromechanical medical devices within the Baxter product portfolio. The ideal candidate will be an outstanding developer using Embedded C/C, with an in-depth knowledge of software architecture, software development standards and processes, wireless network hardware/infrastructure, and networking protocols.
- Define, design, document, implement and support embedded systems including RTOS, User Interface, I/O, and controls; test equipment, emulator/simulator software; with a particular focus on wireless networking, communication protocols, and cybersecurity.
- Design and implement wireless networking solutions to connect Baxter's medical devices to customer wireless networks.
- Author connectivity requirements (system level, software subsystem level) and drive implementation.
- Perform cybersecurity activities including authoring requirements, security code reviews, security architecture reviews, third party OTS reviews, OSS vulnerability scanning, and remediation of security vulnerabilities.
- Create, review, and approve software documentation including verification test cases, penetration testing plans, and verification test reports
- Troubleshoot customer connectivity issues, collaborating with customer IT staff and Baxter support personnel
- Lead investigations (CAPA and/or customer service inquiries) using methodical problem- solving techniques to identify root cause and develop remediation plans
- Coordinate software development tasks with cross-functional team members including Product Design Owner
- B.S. in Engineering (Software, Electrical, Biomedical) or related field and 5 + years of experience.
- Experience designing for safety critical environment and following formal design and development processes preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of wireless networking hardware/software, TCP/IP networking protocols, network configurations, and test environments/equipment.
- Familiarity with third-party/open source/commercially available networking software such as OpenSSL and WolfSSL.
- Experience performing cybersecurity activities including security code reviews and using static code analysis tools.
- Knowledge of security topics including cryptography, authentication protocols, intrusion detection systems, firewalls and VPNs
- A solid technical understanding of the principles and procedures of software development
- Ability to discuss technical or project management issues, both verbally and in written form, to non-technical recipients.
- Cross-functional team experience, including technical and non-technical work.
