Job Title: Woodworking Sanding Technician (focus on vintage window restoration)
Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Sanding Technician to join our woodworking team. This role is essential in preparing vintage windows for restoration/finishing by ensuring surfaces are smooth, uniform, and free from imperfections. The ideal candidate has a strong eye for detail, takes pride in their craft, and works efficiently in a shop environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Sand and prepare wooden parts, panels, and assemblies using hand tools, power sanders, and specialty sanding equipment.
Inspect wood surfaces for defects, rough spots, glue residue, or unevenness, and correct them prior to finishing.
Follow established sanding sequences and grit progression for optimal results.
Maintain consistency in surface preparation across multiple pieces and projects.
Collaborate with craftsmen, finishers, and other team members to meet quality standards and project deadlines.
Keep work areas organized, clean, and safe; follow all shop safety protocols.
Perform basic maintenance on sanding tools and equipment.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in woodworking, cabinetry, or furniture making preferred, but willing to train the right candidate.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship.
Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a team.
Familiarity with different types of wood, grain direction, and sanding techniques a plus.
Physical stamina to handle repetitive tasks and lift/move wood pieces as required.
Work Environment:
Workshop setting with exposure to wood dust, tools, and machinery.
Requires wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
