As our Bridge team continues to grow, we have a new opportunity for a technical Bridge Engineer in our Chicago O’Hare office. For candidates not local to the Chicagoland area, remote work will also be considered. The ideal candidate will work as part of a talented experienced team to design bridges and other roadway structures. This position offers numerous project challenges and an opportunity to become part of a well-established technical group. As a Bridge Engineer at GRAEF, enjoy responsibilities like:

Leading the design and preparation of plans, specifications and estimates for bridges per IDOT and Tollway requirements.

Working closely with professional engineers to perform structural analysis and design with a concentration on Illinois Highway and Tollway structures.

Reviewing of shop drawings and structural inspection of bridges and highway structures.

Leading design meetings and coordinate with team members.

Mentoring, training and developing junior staff.

Applies up-to-date, standard bridge inspection techniques to complete NBIS routine bridge inspection for the IDOT.

To be considered for our Structural Bridge Engineer position, we are seeking candidates who meet the following basic qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in civil engineering with Structural emphasis in course work (such as Reinforced Concrete Design, Prestressed Concrete Design, and Steel Design courses.) Master's degree is a plus.

Minimum of 5 years of practical experience in the structural design or inspection of bridges using IDOT standards. Candidates with greater experience are encouraged to apply as well. CDOT and Tollway experience is a plus.

Bridge inspection experience and qualification as per FHWA. Team Leader certification with IDOT is preferred.

Successful completion of the National Highway Institute (NHI) training course #130055 “Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges” or #130056 “Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges for Professional Engineers” is required.

Strong knowledge of structural analysis and design programs preferred. Working knowledge of MicroStation programs.

Registration as a PE in IL is required.

Registration as an SE in IL required or ability to obtain within one year of employment.

Previous business development and project management experience is a plus.
