Journeyman Carpenter

Job Description:

Prioritizing journeyman willing and able to Travel week to week at times for project in and out of town. Journeyman Carpenter is responsible for independently executing carpentry projects, applying their advanced skills and knowledge in construction, repair, and installation. They work with precision, adhere to safety guidelines, and collaborate with Forman and other team members to achieve project goals.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Project Execution Undertake carpentry projects from start to finish, which may include interpreting blueprints, measuring, cutting, and installation of various materials and fixtures.

2. Framing Perform framing tasks for walls, floors, and other structural components using appropriate tools and techniques.

3. Finish Carpentry Execute finished carpentry tasks, cutting, installation of millwork, trim, doors with an attention to detail and a high quality of work.

4. Cabinet Installation – Installation and repair of cabinets and other case work components ensuring functionality of product with an attention to detail and a high quality of work.

5. Collaboration Work closely with other construction professionals, such as team members and subcontractors, to ensure projects are coordinated, completed seamlessly, and on schedule.

6. Materials Selection – Ensure that appropriate materials are being used as intended for each project and task as outlined in the contract.

7. Safety Follow established safety guidelines and protocols to ensure a safe working environment for themselves and others. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

8. Tool Proficiency Utilize a variety of tools, including hand and power tools, various saws, and grinding tools proficiently and safely to complete tasks properly and efficiently.

9. Problem Solving Identify and resolve issues that may arise during projects by working together with the team, adapting to changing conditions and finding creative solutions.

10. Quality Control Maintain a high standard of workmanship and ensure that completed projects and tasks meet or exceed industry standards.

11. Communication Communicate effectively with the Project Manager or the Foreman to understand any outstanding issues or obstacles, provide updates on progress, and address any concerns.

12. Leadership and Mentorship Provide guidance and support to Apprentices, Laborers, and less experienced team members.

13.Task Management Manage time efficiently and effectively to complete tasks in a timely fashion, document and communicate additional work needs outside of scope, and ensure efficient use of time.

Skills / Qualifications:

Extensive experience in carpentry and construction, with a strong understanding of carpentry techniques, materials, and tool operation and function with safety in mind.

A track record of successfully executed projects.

Proficiency in reading blueprints, shop drawings, details, cross sections, and project specifications.

Excellent hand eye coordination and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and part of a team.

Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and common sense.

Physical stamina to perform tasks that may involve heavy lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Knowledge of safety protocols and willingness to prioritize safety on the job.

Ability to maintain a positive attitude and handle unexpected issues with respect to the team and other subcontractors.

Required Education and Experience:

High School diploma or GED equivalent

5 years of experience as a carpenter
