FIELD/FOREST WORKERS / ASSISTANT FOREST MANAGER

We have immediate openings for forestry workers. This position is located on Oahu in our forests at Gunstock Ranch, Laie and in Haleiwa.

Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative is a NON-PROFIT reforestation organization. We are not a commercial landscape company. Our mission is to revitalize Hawaii’s bio-diverse native/endemic eco-system by reforesting our aina one acre at a time. To date, we have planted over 600,000 native & endemic trees and removed invasive species. Our goal is survival rate, NOT just to plant tree today.

Looking for a dependable, honest, hard-working team member willing to bust their butt daily with little complaint. Must be highly motivated, adaptable to a wide variety of changing work tasks, possess an eagerness to learn, able to work under a variety of environmental conditions (especially heat). Most days are a physically demanding. Must be a positive, passionate, motivated, self-directed individual able to work well with fellow staff, communicate respectfully, take pride in their work and take care of equipment as if it were their own.

RESPONSIBILITIES

seed collection, propagule banking, propagation of native and endemic plant species, greenhouse nursery care and maintenance, out-planting, data collection, managing a bio-diverse native/endemic forest, non-native invasive species control, identify tree insects and diseases, fence construction and maintenance, forest fire mitigation and response, conduct prescribed burns, assist with community group plantings, watering, land clearing, general agriculture/forestry work and general project implementation. You will be led by an incredible forest manager/botanist who works hands-on and supportive team members.

Not going to lie. The work is hard! It’s hot! We love, appreciate, and value our team members but you won’t get a daily trophy or reward for just showing up and doing your job.

You aren’t maintaining a garden at someone else's house, or picking pineapple for others to eat. You’ll be helping to build a legacy for Hawaii, for the next generation – helping to plant native/endemic Hawaiian trees, removing invasives, and managing a bio-diverse native/endemic forest!
