Child & Club Safety Coordinator

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Leadership

1. Coordinate all health and safety objectives for the organization.

2. Provide guidance to CEO and leadership team to ensure the organization is provided with timely and relevant recommendations and assistance in all areas of child and club safety.

3. Lead outreach efforts to ensure organization receives consultative support on critical health and safety needs.

4. Work with administrative team on risk management, loss prevention, insurance practices, premise security, transportation safety, internet safety, background checks, incident management systems and other related systems and issues.

5. Coordinate safety-related meetings, conferences, and trainings for organization on best practices and strategies related to child protection.

6. Attend all safety related meetings to ensure continuity in organization.

7. Ensure that all reports are completed accurately and submitted promptly. Records are retained correctly. Complete reports as required but not limited to CEO, BGCA, OSHA, HIOSH., etc.

8.Oversee new safety initiatives and projects.

9. Oversee the One Stop Resource Center (OSRC) and act as representative for the public and organization’s partners. Coordinate all activities and programs at the OSRC.

Safe Facilities

1. Identify and assess risks and/or issues at Clubs and proactively address with leadership.

2. Coordinate safety inspections at sites and follow up with any safety issues in a timely manner.

3. Ensure that all indoor/outdoor environments are well maintained and have no safety issues.

4. Ensure Emergency Operation Plan is current and practiced regularly.

5. Ensure emergency response numbers are posted and that there is up‐to‐date family contact information and authorization for emergency care for each child readily available.

6. Ensure protocols are in place for parent notification in the event of youth emergency.

7. Monitor best practices and standards of care for organization.

Strategic Planning

Assist board-led safety committee objectives to effectively manage risks and continuously improve safety policies, procedures, and processes. Provide updates and assist with staff training.

Resource Management

Manage, coordinate or otherwise ensure the completion of projects or grants that address child and club safety issues.

Partnership Development

1. Oversee the OSRC facility and address all health and safety needs.

2. Greet public and provide a “warm hand off” to other services to support child safety, community resources, and additional youth serving organization needed for Maui’s families under the OSRC.

Advocacy

1. Support the organization advocacy platform relating to child safety through speaking engagements and participation in external events and activities on an as needed basis.

2. Support the planning and implementation of Child & Clubs safety events and activities.

Compliance

1. Inform and promote compliance with federal, state or local laws and regulations to include but not limited to ADA, building codes, health regulations, etc.

2. Provide on-site and virtual technical assistance to help ensure local Clubs comply with BGCA membership requirements.

3. Work with leadership to implement best practices in child protection.

4. Complete all safety reports as required by CEO, BGCA, OSHA, HIOSH, and other agencies.

5. Ensure SDS eFolder is current for all sites and workplace safety practices are adhered to at all times.

Partnerships

1. Provide suggestions regarding potential vendors and partners for background checks, insurance providers, incident management systems, external safety hotlines, internet safety, safety training programs, and other relevant safety programs and services.

2. Benchmark with local Clubs, youth serving organizations and other groups to identify best practices and standards that inform BGCM's overall child safety model.

3. Support the integration of child protection and safety practices throughout the organization collaborating closely with the leadership team.

4. Regularly communicate safety messages to staff through newsletters, email, trainings, and other outlets as authorized.

Additional Responsibilities

1. Demonstrate BGCM’s values of integrity, excellence, and inclusion and integrate these beliefs into the work environment.

2. Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in handbook and elsewhere.

3. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with supervisor, staff, volunteers, and youth members to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions, instruct and advise/counsel.

External: Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, government agencies, schools, families, parents and others to provide information on resources, resolving issues and concerns.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

 Minimum three years of safety related professional experience or similar discipline.

 Four year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.

 Has knowledge of risk control, premises liability, security, property hazards, accident prevention, emergency response planning/procedures, vehicular safety, and child abuse prevention.

 Exhibits commitment for child safety issues.

 Demonstrates high standards of ethics and integrity.

 Maintains strong work ethic, positive attitude, high level of energy and flexibility.

 Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 Able to manage multiple projects in conjunction with day-to-day tasks and adjust priorities.

 Ability to collect and analyze data and make decisions based on information.

 Develop solutions to problems with limited supervision.

 Exceptional organizational and time management skills, and acute attention to detail.

 Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

 Ability to keep records and information confidential.

 Valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to: sit regularly, use hands to finger, handle, and/or feel; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally walk and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. Employee will be required to drive to other clubs and for work related errands.
