Waimea Town Market — Market Assistant (Part-Time)

Location: Waimea, Hawai‘i

Schedule: Saturdays, 5:00 AM – 2:00 PM (6-7 hours/market (split shift w break during midmorning)

Pay: $20/hour Starting

Overview:

Waimea Town Market is seeking a reliable, physically capable, and highly conscientious Market Assistant to support setup, operations, and breakdown on market days. This person must work well independently, think ahead, and be able to quickly problem-solve without needing constant direction.

Key Responsibilities:

Arrive on time and assist with full market setup and teardown (including tents, tables, signage, and traffic cones).

Strategically place directional signs (parking, restrooms, customer guidance) around campus.

Be a friendly, welcoming presence—engage with vendors and customers as needed.

Monitor for safety and cleanliness during setup and teardown (e.g., tripping hazards, blocked access points).

Communicate promptly with the Market Manager about any issues, delays, or observations.

Secure and properly store all materials at the end of each market day.

Ideal Candidate Has:

Strong executive function: Plans ahead, adapts quickly, and follows through without reminders.

High judgment and discernment: Understands when to take initiative, when to ask, and how to make good on-the-spot decisions.

Physical ability to lift and move tents, tables, and signage in all weather conditions.

A calm, respectful demeanor under pressure.

A working phone and reliable transportation.

Familiarity with the Waimea area and community preferred.

Bonus Qualities (Not Required):

Prior experience with events or farmers markets.

Basic repair or handyman skills (tent repairs, sign fixes).

Interest in local food systems or community markets.
