Since 1986, we have been dedicated to serving families across Kaua‘i County. We are seeking a full-time Clinical Specialist for our Waimea medical clinic.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Clinical Site Supervisor, the Clinical Specialist is a vital team member who provides direct patient support, coordinates care, and ensures smooth clinic operations. This role requires professionalism, clinical competence, confidentiality, and strong communication skills when working with patients, families, healthcare providers, and staff.
Key Duties
Greet patients and visitors promptly with courtesy and clear communication
Maintain patient confidentiality and promote patients’ rights.
Manage phone calls professionally, taking and routing messages as needed
Complete and update patient registration in EMR (verify insurance, etc)
Schedule appointments per provider protocols; request prior medical records as necessary
Conduct appointment reminder calls, confirming patient details and payment expectations
Record patient chief complaints and vital signs; prepare patients for examination
Notify supervisors or providers promptly of urgent concerns per triage policies
Manage patient medication pick-up documentation and verification
Review post-visit instructions and provider plans with patients to ensure understanding
Schedule tests, imaging, procedures, and specialty referrals; complete authorizations and required forms
Follow up on referrals and imaging/lab orders to ensure completion and receipt of records
Maintain timely, clear communication with patients and families, documenting all interactions
Qualifications
Clinical competence demonstrated through experience, certification (e.g., Nurse Aide, Medical Assistant, LPN, RN), or training
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Tuberculosis clearance required (may also be completed during the hiring process)
Strong knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare practices
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate tactfully and professionally with individuals across the community
Self-motivated, ethical, flexible, and able to prioritize tasks in a busy environment
Preferred
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Certified Medical Assistant
