Software/programming student (unpaid)

Georgia, Northwest GA 00000 Northwest GA USA

Vacancy caducado!

I'm looking for a programming student. In Calhoun, GA. The title may not sound grand, but I can teach you how to develop software. I can't pay you, but if we develop software together, then you will own a percent of it and all future profits from it. The whys and whats are negotiable. For example: we could make a website, or we could make an Android app. I have my own ideas, but I'll also be interested in hearing what you want to do.

I am an experienced software developer. I have worked professionally as a front-end web developer using JavaScript and on the server side of a web app using Java. Recently for my own projects I've been using Python. I learn whatever tools I need for the job. I also have a PhD in math. It's not super-relevant to my programming, but people seem to find it impressive.

There's no particular schedule, and I don't see this as a full-time job. We would probably need to meet a few times a week. I like mornings, and I was thinking we could just meet at public places, like the library or a cafe. Perhaps a heavier schedule at the beginning to get you started and after that I think you'll be able to do most of your work from home. Exactly which days of the week and which hours makes no difference to me (except nothing in the middle of the night). I can work around your schedule.

Basic requirements: It helps if you know at least a little programming, but I don't care what language. And you don't need to know much. You may even be already quite good at it. Perhaps you are a student. What I can teach you is how it is done professionally. If you don't know any programming at all but you are open to it, the question becomes, are you capable? You might be, with a decent teacher. If you are good at math, that's good reason for thinking you might be good at programming. But I've known plenty of programmers who didn't know any math.

I don't care how old you are, sex, previous or existing jobs, formal education, job training. I have no requirements about any of that. I'll be able to tell whether you can do this. I'm quite open to doing this with a young person who might still be in school. But for a minor, we will take very special care to avoid any impropriety or appearance of impropriety: only meet at public places, etc.

You will need a laptop computer. It doesn't have to be fancy. The one I use cost less than $200. If you don't have one and cannot afford one, don't let that hold you back. I can probably help you get one. For some work, it really does help to have a more powerful computer. I'm thinking of Android app development in particular. It helps to have a powerful machine for that: but don't let such concerns bother you unless and until there is a need for it.

Neither of us has to make any big commitment here, but the possibility exists that we could create a successful piece of software or a website that actually makes money. I can't promise that. But I see no reason not to try. We will try to make moneyfor both of us.

What I can promise is that if you want some company to hire you as a software developer one day (and get paid for it, that is), then being able to show them actual software you have made or helped make goes a long wayeven if that software itself did not earn you any money.

If you're interested, just go ahead and message me, and we can sort out the details. Don't be shy. I don't know if anyone will even respond to this. Send a resume if you want, or just describe who you are and why you are interested, and whatever else you think I might need to know. I will respond to all inquiries.

Adam
