Role Value PropositionNational Accounts is responsible for strategy, sales, underwriting, account management and overall profitability for customers, including the Federal Government, with 5,000 or more eligible employees. The Senior Underwriting Consultant will provide group underwriting services for new business and renewals of dental, disability, life, vision, and voluntary products for this market segment. This person will need to be able to evaluate risk characteristics inherent in group insurance plans for prospects (new business) as well as renewals (existing business). They will conduct a detailed analysis to establish profitable and competitive rates and plan characteristics given the unique circumstances and needs of each group customer. Key Responsibilities
Participates in strategy meetings and reviews previously released quotes for understanding trends and results
Analyzes risk by running manual calculations and preparing experience rated quotes; works with Sales and Service team to ensure the final product will meet the needs of the group prospect or customer.
Underwrites new business and renewals by analyzing plan design, premium and claim experience information, and the group’s demographics to appropriately underwrite the risk.
Prices and offers plan alternatives, and responds to inquiries from the Sales team, broker, customer, and other partners.
Works collaboratively with internal and external partners to make sound decisions that will continue to build MetLife’s book of group insurance business.
Expected to work on prospects and customers of various sizes above 5,000 employees
Essential Business Experience and Technical SkillsRequired:
4+ years’ work experience in group insurance underwriting.
Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, listening).
Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Ability to adapt to change.
Strong customer service skills.
High level of organizational skill and the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
Team player: works well with other underwriters and business partners.
Proficiency with Microsoft products, particularly Excel.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics, actuarial sciences, risk management, business administration, finance/accounting, economics, or a related field.
Working knowledge of underwriting policies and procedures, underwriting guidelines and philosophies
