Director, Workplace Violence Prevention

DescriptionThe Director of Workplace Violence Prevention is a system leadership role responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and oversight of a comprehensive Workplace Violence Prevention Program across Emory Healthcare. This role ensures a safe and secure environment for all patients, staff, and visitors by designing evidence-based policies, conducting training programs, and fostering a culture of safety and respect.Reporting to the VP of Employment Practices, the Director collaborates across departments to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.Key Responsibilities:Program Development and Oversight:

Develop and implement a system-wide Workplace Violence Prevention Program, aligned with Emory Healthcare’s mission, values, and strategic priorities.

Establish policies and procedures that address all aspects of workplace violence, including prevention, response, recovery, and reporting.

Conduct regular assessments to identify risks and vulnerabilities, using data-driven methods to guide program enhancements.

Monitor and ensure compliance with OSHA, Joint Commission, CMS, and other applicable workplace safety standards.

Training and Education:

Lead the design and implementation of training programs for employees, managers, and leadership to recognize, de-escalate, and manage potentially violent situations.

Develop specialized training for high-risk areas such as emergency departments, behavioral health units, and public-facing roles.

Create a framework for ongoing education to reinforce workplace violence awareness and prevention strategies.

Incident Management and Reporting:

Establish protocols for the reporting and investigation of workplace violence incidents, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to legal and ethical standards.

Lead or support investigations of significant incidents, partnering with HR, Public Safety, Risk, and Legal teams as appropriate.

Maintain a centralized database for tracking workplace violence incidents, analyzing trends, and generating reports for leadership.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

Partner with Human Resources, Public Safety, Risk Management, Behavioral Health, and other stakeholders to ensure a coordinated approach to workplace violence prevention.

Serve as a subject matter expert on workplace violence prevention, representing Emory Healthcare in community, state, and national forums.

Collaborate with local law enforcement, emergency response teams, and external consultants to enhance workplace safety measures.

Leadership and Culture Building:

Foster a culture of safety, respect, and accountability, promoting zero tolerance for workplace violence.

Provide leadership and mentorship to a multidisciplinary team, including public safety team members and trainers.

Develop metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure program effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Human Resources, Behavioral Health, or a related field is required. Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is strongly preferred. Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience preferably in a healthcare setting.Demonstrated expertise in policy development, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance. Experience in leading training programs and managing multidisciplinary teams. Strong knowledge of workplace violence prevention frameworks, including OSHA guidelines and the Joint Commission standards. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse stakeholders.Analytical mindset with proficiency in using data to inform decision-making and program evaluation. Crisis management skills and the ability to remain composed under pressure.Certified Threat Manager (CTM), Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA), or similar certifications are preferred. De-escalation or crisis intervention certifications (e.g., CPI, MOAB) are highly desirable.Work Environment:Hybrid work arrangement with a requirement for on-site presence at Emory Healthcare facilities as needed. Will require travel to different system locations.
