This position will provide expertise in Online Transactional Processing (OLTP) and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) databases. This position will be responsible for database design for scalability, performance and resilience, advanced performance tuning, backup and recovery, active-active database design and implementation, and security. The individual in this position may telecommute from within 50 miles of the Atlanta metropolitan area in alignment with Norfolk Southern’s office/remote - hybrid work policy when not required to be in the office.Job Duties:

Create and maintain optimal on-prem and cloud database architectural artifacts.

Develop on-prem to cloud database migration solutions and strategies.

Serve as representative in Architectural Review Board (ARB) to align database structure and function with organizational needs.

Lead and partner with application teams to develop database design and model for optimal database, application performance and throughput.

Design active-active, high availability and disaster recovery strategies and solutions for OLTP databases.

Design and configure on-prem/cloud analytics platform operational infrastructure related to OLAP databases.

Responsible for analytics platform governance and cluster provisioning for OLAP databases.

Design and support of multi-region on-prem to cloud data streaming and engineering platform for OLAP databases.

Monitor data quality and database resource utilization for OLAP databases.

Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on performance tuning and optimization of SQL queries, stored procedures, and indexes to improve database performance.

Collaborate with database administrators to develop database backup and recovery strategies to ensure business continuity and disaster recovery.

Manage database security by implementing appropriate authentication, authorization, and auditing mechanisms.

Collaborate with developers and database administrators to design and implement database schema changes.

Serve as Level 3 on-call support for critical database analytics, database, and warehouse issues.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related, relevant field.

Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience working with complex databases providing database architecting expertise. This experience must include at least three (3) years of experience:

Troubleshooting and resolving complex database issues;

Working with Red Hat Linux platform, ansible, or terraform automation framework;

Utilizing Github interactions for database DDL change tracking; and

Administering NoSQL databases.

Demonstrated knowledge of:

Unix and PowerShell scripts.

Demonstrated ability to:

Develop database resiliency architecture for highly available databases;

Adapt to evolving technologies;

Lead database re-design and migration efforts with minimal downtime; and

Work collaboratively with cross functional teams.

Must be able to work weekends and on-call as necessary.
