Our Organization and Mission:
The Office of Inspector General is established pursuant to Section 20.055, Florida Statutes, to provide a central point for the coordination of and responsibility for activities that promote accountability, integrity, and efficiency in government. The Office of Inspector General fulfills its duties and responsibilities by providing independent and objective evaluations of department programs, activities, and functions.
This position is located within the Internal Audit Section of the Office of Inspector General, Department of Business and Professional Regulation. This is 40 hours a week, five days a week, eight hours a day position headquartered in Tallahassee. Remote work or teleworking is not available for this position.
The anticipated salary for this position is between $72,000 to $77,000 annually based upon the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, work experience, and certifications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for assisting the Director of Auditing in implementing the provisions of Section 20.055, Florida statutes, regarding the auditing duties and responsibilities of the Office of Inspector General.
This position reports to the Director of Auditing and is required to:
Conduct independent and objective internal audits (of a more complex nature) of agency programs, activities, and functions, to include financial, compliance, information technology, and performance audits; perform assigned work in accordance with office policies and procedures and applicable internal auditing standards.
Conduct consulting engagements and management reviews and carry out other activities that promote accountability, integrity, and efficiency in the department; perform assigned work in accordance with office policies and procedures and applicable internal auditing standards.
Prepare detailed, accurate, and concise reports that document audit findings and that require very little to no editing.
Assist the Director of Auditing in training new internal audit staff on internal auditing requirements and standards, departmental policies and procedures, as well as tools, techniques, and methods for performing work more effectively and efficiently.
Provide advisory/technical assistance services to department management, as directed by the Director of Auditing.
Make oral presentations to internal and external staff, as directed by the Director of Auditing.
Serve as liaison to external review entities, as directed by the Director of Auditing.
Conduct or assist OIG investigative staff in conducting special investigations of alleged violations of statutes or rules, mismanagement, or significant deviation from accepted management or financial practices, as directed by the Director of Auditing or Inspector General.
Assist the Director of Auditing in establishing and maintaining a Quality Assurance and Improvement Program for the internal audit activity.
Assist the Director of Auditing in conducting annual and ongoing risk assessments, as well as developing annual and long-term audit plans.
Assist the Director of Auditing in carrying out Office of Inspector General duties and responsibilities related to the Florida Single Audit Act.
Maintain and enhance professional knowledge.
Perform other special duties, assignments, and related worked, as directed by the Director of Auditing or Inspector General.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrate knowledge of professional internal auditing standards, to include the Institute of Internal Auditors’ International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
Demonstrate skills in using Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to use available information technology to perform duties of the position.
Ability to conduct fact-finding research and identify essential information.
Ability to analyze problems, using sound reasoning to identify alternative solutions.
Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing; to express facts and ideas in a succinct and organized manner; and to make clear and convincing verbal and written presentations and reports.
Ability to travel in-state, as needed.

Minimum Requirements:
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s or higher from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, business management, computer science, or a related field as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or four years’ experience in this field.
Candidates must also have a combined minimum of four years of work experience in the following areas: internal auditing, management analysis, systems analysis, financial analysis, program evaluation, quality assurance, or a related area.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting
At least two years of audit-related experience in an Inspector General’s office
Possession of a CIGA, CIA, CPA, CISA, CFE, or CGAP certification
At least two years of audit experience using approved auditing standards
