X 7 DaysPOSITION CONCEPT:The Journeyman Electrical, Mechanical, or I&C is a multi-skilled position. The job requires the ability to operate the plant and to be proficient in one or more of the following skills: Mechanical, Electrical, or Instrumentation & Controls (I&C). The Journeyman Electrical, Mechanical, or I&C is part of a team based work environment and therefore must possess high technical and work standards.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Journeyman Electrical, Mechanical, or I&C is responsible for the operation and maintenance/troubleshooting of all equipment (electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic control, and drive systems, etc…) required to support Power Generation and Water Production at Polk Power Station. The Journeyman Electrical, Mechanical, or I&C is required to perform maintenance/troubleshooting tasks that are at a journeyman level in either Mechanical, Electrical, or I&C trades. These tasks are to be performed with the tools normal to the trade. Operational duties include start-up, shutdown, normal and emergency conditions of plant equipment. Operational duties are performed both in the plant areas and from the Control Room, depending on the Journeyman Electrical, Mechanical, or I&C work area assignment. Journeyman Electrical, Mechanical, or I&C is expected to become proficient in all operational areas of the plant. The Journeyman Electrical, Mechanical, or I&C is expected to complete training for and be capable of performing Confined Space Rescue, First Aid/CPR First Responder duties, HAZWOPPER Technician level response, and Incipient Fire response.EDUCATION:Required : Valid High School Diploma or valid GEDEXPERIENCE:Required : Requires at least four years of work experience in a large industrial complex with experience in maintaining and troubleshooting equipment in either the Electrical, Mechanical, or I&C area. This includes preventative, predictive, and repair maintenance.KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:Required : The work environment requires a flexible individual with a high ability to learn in order to progress. The Journeyman Electrical, Mechanical, or I&C /Power Plant Operator will be required to operate various types of industrial equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes, golf carts, trucks, etc.WORK CONDITIONS: Normal work schedule is a twelve-hour rotating shift. Overtime work may be required, as business needs dictate. The Journeyman Electrical, Mechanical, or I&C /Power Plant Operator working in the plant areas will be exposed to ambient temperatures and the elements. The Journeyman Electrical, Mechanical, or I&C /Power Plant Operator will often be required to work alone in assigned areas. Some maintenance work requires working in confined spaces. The Journeyman Electrical, Mechanical, or I&C /Power Plant Operator will encounter work at heights and in high places. While performing their job duties the Journeyman Electrical, Mechanical, or I&C /Power Plant Operator will be required to wear a variety of personal protective equipment (PPE), to include hard hat, safety glasses, goggles, steel-toed shoes, gloves, hearing protection, face shield, various coveralls (arc flash rated), full-body harness, half-face air purifying respirator, full-face air purifying respirator, SCBA, and supplied air respirator. Since Polk is an mechanical generation facility, the Journeyman Electrical, Mechanical, or I&C /Power Plant Operator is exposed in some areas to EMF fields. Additionally, there are some very small dose exposures to microwaves and gamma radiation sources.PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS:
Able to climb and descend ladders and stairs according to the area to which they are assigned.
Able to communicate verbally and in writing.
Able to hear both speech (radio and face-to-face) and alarms.
Able to maneuver around to perform operations and maintenance requiring bend over on average 5 times per shift, stoop and squat on average 3 times per shift.
Perform work while reaching overhead on average 3 times per shift.
Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds approximately twice per shift. Capable of lifting 20 pounds approximately 10 times per shift. Capable of carrying 20 pounds a distance of 20-30 feet approximately 4 times per shift.
Able to perform pushing and pulling with their upper body with approximately 30 pounds of force approximately 3 times per shift.
Possess vision of at least 20/30 Snellen in one eye, and 20/50 in the other, with or without glasses. Possess good visual perception including; depth, peripheral, and color differentiation.
Possess sufficient balance and coordination to maneuver on and amongst ladders, stairs, equipment and curbing.
Possess no identifiable risk of incapacity that may occur without warning.
Able to work alone.
Able to work at heights or in high places.
Depending on area assignment, have the ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods.
