DescriptionCandidates who meet the minimum qualifications and pass the initial screening will be invited will participate in any combination of a written test, a physical agility test, and an interview. Please note that a physical agility test is tentatively scheduled for December 2nd and 3rd, 2024. Additional details will be provided to eligible candidates upon referral.Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis entry-level medical position involves serving as a ground ambulance crew member and driver.

Medical Treatment and Protocols: Administer proper pre-hospital medical treatment to patients based on established protocols. These protocols guide your actions in various emergency situations. Ensure adherence to standardized procedures for patient care, including assessment, interventions, and transport decisions.

Documentation and Records: Maintain accurate and legible records, such as run reports, checklists, incident reports, and information sheets. Use professional terminology when documenting patient encounters. Regularly perform BLS checklists, replacing any missing items promptly.

Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance: Regularly check the emergency vehicle to ensure it’s in proper working condition. Verify that all fluids (e.g., fuel, oil, coolant) are at appropriate levels. Keep the assigned vehicle and all medical equipment clean and ready for use.

Safe Driving Practices: Drive the emergency vehicle safely and prudently, adhering to all traffic laws. Your driving skills are crucial for patient and crew safety.

Station Duties and Training: Perform station duties, which may include restocking supplies, cleaning, and maintaining equipment. Participate in continuing education and refresher training programs to stay up-to-date with medical advancements and protocols.

Education, Experience, LicensingValid Driver’s License and EVOC:

You must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Successfully complete a 16-hour Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) provided by the county within 30 days of hire.

Regulatory Compliance:

Meet all current requirements outlined in Chapter 64-J1 of the Florida Administrative Code and applicable Florida Statutes for EMTs and ambulance drivers.

This includes understanding and adhering to policies and procedures related to driving County vehicles.

Certification:

Hold a current State of Florida EMT or Paramedic certificate by time of hire.

Paramedics can work as EMTs if they choose, as long as they have both a state-issued EMT license and a CPR certification.

Body Mechanics and Skills:

Demonstrate proper body mechanics for lifting and moving patients in both emergency and non-emergency situations.

Possess knowledge of basic skills and procedures as detailed in the Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines.

Credentialing Tests:

Pass the Lee County EMS credentialing tests, showcasing your skills and procedures.

Background Checks and Screening:

As active members of the Lee County Division of Public Safety, incumbents are subject to criminal background checks, medical evaluations, and psychological screenings as permitted by law.

Skills & Procedures: Must know and be able to demonstrate the basic skills and procedures outlined in DOT guidelines and pass the Lee County EMS credentialing tests.

Salary:

Annual salary ranges from $44,844.80, plus overtime.
