Position Summary
The Commercial Real Estate Accountant / Controller will oversee all accounting and financial activities for our portfolio of commercial properties. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, preparing accurate financial reports, handling CAM reconciliations and budgets, and ensuring compliance with all financial regulations. The ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented, experienced in property accounting, and eager to partner with our property management and ownership teams to drive performance and growth.
Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day accounting for a diverse portfolio of commercial properties
Manage general ledger, accounts payable & receivable, bank reconciliations, and monthly close processes
Prepare accurate financial statements and customized owner reports
Monitor budgets, forecasts, and cash flow for multiple properties
Coordinate CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliations and rent rolls
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements
Support annual audits and liaise with external CPAs
Implement and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
Provide financial analysis to support acquisitions, dispositions, and lease negotiations
Partner with property managers and ownership to optimize property performance
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in commercial real estate or property management
Strong understanding of CAM, lease abstracts, and property accounting
Proficient in Yardi, MRI, AppFolio, QuickBooks, or similar property accounting software
Excellent Excel skills and financial modeling ability
Detail-oriented, analytical, and able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication skills to collaborate with property managers, brokers, and ownership groups
