The N253 Department manages the United States Central Command (USCENTCOM), United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM), and the Joint Staff work programs under the N250 Division for Joint Staff and Combatant Commands. We are seeking a technically deep and operationally oriented Systems Engineer to provide technical support for a dynamic and impactful work program to meet the challenges of our USSOUTHCOM sponsor. This person will become an integral part of the work program supporting our tasks and the associated products & deliverables, the technical team conducting the work, and will partner with and support the Project Lead for strategic work-shaping and sponsor relationships. This work program directly supports the SOUTHCOM’s Command, Control, Communications and Computer/Cyber Systems (C4S) Director; SCJ6Job Description: We are looking for an energetic and talented System Engineer to join our team in Miami Florida supporting USSOUTHCOM. This person will provide Systems Engineering support to the SOUTHCOM C4S Director (J6). The candidate will work with the J6 Directorate and staff and lead a MITRE team to develop technical deliverables for the sponsor in areas of: Combatant Command (CCMD) Enterprise C4 systems, cyber operations, mission partner environment, cybersecurity and data-centricity. The candidate will be required to contribute and shape the MITRE USSOUTHCOM J6 Task, guiding and implementing strategic and operational command, control, communications, and computers (C4) and Cybersecurity capabilities and initiatives. The selected candidate will work closely with military and civilian personnel across the Command and leverage existing knowledge of cybersecurity, DoD digital modernization (may include Mission Engineering and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML)), Combined Joint All Domain Command and Control (CJADC2), and C4 initiatives to lead the development and implementation of processes and technology within USSOUTHCOM. This person will gain detailed knowledge of relevant policies, processes, technical systems, and operational processes required for the integration and execution of strategic and tactical-level recommendations and solutions.Additionally, the selected candidate will work closely with military and civilian personnel across USSOUTHCOM operations, intelligence, communications, cybersecurity, analysis/assessments, and data/technology to document operational requirements, develop/identify relevant concepts or emerging technologies, and create advanced solutions to address USSOUTHCOM mission challenges. Fostering collaboration between USSOUTHCOM Directorates (e.g., J8, J3 and J6) is a key factor for the success of this task. Finally, the candidate will work collaboratively with the local MITRE team, other MITRE DoD projects, as well as MITRE subject matter experts (SME), demonstrating strong teamwork, cooperation, and cross-sponsor problem solving. Roles & Responsibilities:
Engage and support US DoD Sponsors, and partner nations and apply systems engineering best practices to develop a detailed understanding of their operational challenges and requirements.
Conduct analysis of alternatives between multiple technical approaches and develop actionable courses of action.
Apply systems engineering principles to facilitate evidence-driven decision-making by sponsors.
May determine how the transition to digital products, tools, and processes will support evaluating and comparing alternative architectures using qualitative and quantitative techniques; exploring trade spaces; and defining capability and interoperability gaps, overlaps, opportunities, and constraints.
Apply cutting edge methods and tools (such as Model-Based Systems Engineering, Digital Engineering, Machine Learning, Data Analytics) to assess designs, identify, and mitigate performance constraints and gaps, evaluate proposed changes, and support verification and test, to solve problems that make the world a safer place.
Foster collaboration across the organization, tapping into diverse perspectives and solutions to address sponsor problems.
Communicate highly technical analyses and recommendations clearly and concisely through written products and verbal engagements with sponsors and partners.
Enable users to understand technical implementation specifics in terms of operational capabilities and limitations for mission execution.
Understand and communicate best practices and recommendations into time-phased implementation or integration plans and roadmaps, in the context of mission-driven, theater-level needs for both US Department of Defense and Partner Nations.
Provide and support team leadership to identify operational and engineering challenges, potential solutions, and communicate project goals and impacts clearly and effectively.
Basic Qualifications:
Typically, 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace), Physics, Statistics, Mathematics or related fields; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years of relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Active Top Secret with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI
Solid understanding of systems engineering principles and practices.
Demonstrated proficiency in technical areas such as model-based systems engineering (MBSE), digital engineering, and system-of-systems architecture.
Knowledge and Expertise of Information Systems and Technology
Experience in systems integration and interoperability testing.
Familiarity with the DoD organization and missions, the role of the Joint Staff, Combatant Commands, and Military Service Components, operational environments, threats, and complexities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace), Physics, Statistics, Mathematics or related fields and 6-8 year’s experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Relevant experience in systems analysis and integration, mission analysis, capabilities development, requirements analysis, and/or business process analysis.
Active TS/SCI Clearance
Proven application of model-based systems engineering and digital engineering using SySML and tools such as Cameo, MagicDraw, Magic Systems of Systems Architect, and Rhapsody.
Prior experience with US Department of Defense systems of systems integration
Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in systems engineering, including digital engineering, artificial intelligence, and machine learning applications.
Familiarity with Department of Defense (DoD) acquisition and requirements processes.
Experience engaging with multiple levels of government and military leadership.
Experience in military Command and Control, Communications and Computers (C4)
Prior experience with any of the COCOMs systems and missions.
Demonstrated capability for strategic planning and ability to provide actionable plans to government sponsors.
