Survey Crew Chief/Draftsman

SPS has an opening for a Survey Crew Chief/Draftsman (field-to-finish) located in our Lake Placid, FL office. The Survey Crew Chief will work together with the Office Surveyor on mainly ALTA/NSPS projects all over the state of Florida. If you've done this work, you are familiar with the requirements and should know that they are more involved than a regular boundary survey. We are looking for a candidate with at least 2 year of field experience in ALTA/NSPS surveys (or equivalent experience) as well as 2-3 years of drafting experience. We are currently taking in an abundance of projects and so we need help immediately.

Qualification Requirements:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Knowledge of basic computer skills

Must be willing to interact with people and work in team environments.

Must be detail orientated, self-motivated with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

A valid driver's license is required or the ability to obtain one.

Previous experience with GPS, Total station, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit and operate a computer under normal ergonomic office conditions and also in stationary vehicles.

Required to work in an outdoors environment including construction sites and close proximity to traffic and active pipelines.

Will require prolonged periods of standing and walking to perform some of the typical tasks and duties associated with topographic and construction surveying.

Ability to lift equipment or objects weighing 50 to 75 pounds.

Typical Tasks and Duties:

Performing land surveying services including plane and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects.

Gathers field survey data through the use of conventional surveying and GPS methods.

Prepares accurate field notes, drawings and records change in conditions while in the field.

May be required to clear vegetation, dig holes, and pound stakes with hand tools.

Learn and follow surveying methods and standards as required by state and public agencies.

This position will require a person to think independently and make rational judgment calls.

Effective communication with contractors, client staff, and project owner representatives in the field is a must.

Perform responsibilities in a conscientious, legal and ethical manner with a strong attention to detail.

Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.

Travel and out of town stays will be required 80% of the time; may work overtime especially during the construction season. Paid travel expenses at GSA rates! (typically $150 or more/day in addition to wages)
