A DC-based association management company is looking for a versatile, motivated and energetic copy editor and publication specialist to join our team! The successful candidate will be a sharp, detail-oriented individual with proven success as an editor/writer including strong overall publication management skills, and with excellent oral & written communications skills. This position works closely with our executive team and will be primarily responsible for coordinating the production of digital and print publications and marketing materials of assigned association clients.

What You Will Do
Responsible for the timely and efficient production of digital and print publications, for meeting online publishing deadlines, and for enforcing editorial standards and policies.
Support authors, peer reviewers, Committee members, technical editors, and designers in the handling of publications.
Handle tasks related to processing, peer review, pre-production, and production of print and digital publications.
Verify that article submissions contain all the required components and meet all journal requirements and policies.
Correspond with authors to answer questions or request additional information to ensure completeness of article submissions.
Copyedit and/or proofread article submissions prior to sending them to subject matter experts and/or technical editors. Final editing, including substantive editing as needed, of articles approved by peer reviewers.
Handle distribution of production materials including schedules, content plans, proofs, layouts, images, and final files.
Handle administrative tasks such as advertiser contracts and deliverables, photos and image selection, creation of in-house ads, and gathering of mailing lists and order count.
Work with the designer to assist with publication layout matters and supply all approved materials (articles, photos, and ads)
Maintain WordPress-based publication webpages and update them as necessary.
Execute marketing campaigns and create the supporting deliverables and marketing collateral to promote publications, etc.
Fulfill publication orders.
Field and route telephone calls, as needed.
Assist other departments, as needed.
Education & Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field.
Minimum of 2-3-years of editing, writing, or related experience required.
This position is not expected to layout publications, however ability to work within design software (InDesign) to make moderate changes is strongly preferred.
Prior experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Constant Contact, MailChimp, WordPress, Canva, Vimeo, YouTube, and Zoom.
Strong customer service orientation and commitment to company’s “Members Come First” motto.
Experience handling high-volume, production-based projects, including prioritizing, organizing, and tracking details, effectively managing deadlines and multiple priorities.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must be flexible, adaptable, creative, and self-motivated.
Must be detail oriented and deadline driven. Able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive information.
