Associate I, CommunicationsPosition OverviewAre you passionate about strategic communications research and analysis and media relations? If so, this is the right opportunity for you. We are seeking a professional to join Pew’s Communications staff supporting the work of the institutional and strategy team, including special projects. The position will contribute to a range of communications reports and projects, including those that support some of Pew’s broader external affairs initiatives.In this role, you will:

Report to the Director, Communications.

Conduct media research and analysis.

Prepare, proof, and edit regular reports and other documents.

Support periodic internal and external events.

Contribute to both internal and external communications strategies and coordination efforts.

Collaborate with colleagues across Pew in the United States and around the world to ensure quality work and interact frequently with senior management across the institution.

The position, based in Pew’s Washington, DC office, will participate in Pew’s core in-office days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and will have flexibility to work from home the remainder of the week.Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the country for which they are seeking employment without visa sponsorship.Responsibilities

Performs daily monitoring of media clips, analyzes media coverage, and compiles and distributes media reports for Pew’s senior leadership.

Helps compile, draft, and coordinate various other media and institutional reports. These projects may include coordination with the Communications department’s senior leadership.

Provides support—such as compiling media lists and conducting periodic media outreach, and conducting messaging, media markets, social media, and other strategic communications research—that benefits Pew’s institutional and programmatic efforts.

Assists with research, planning, and logistics for institutional public and internal events.

Provides research, writing, and coordination support for various projects for the broader external affairs division as needed, such as thought leadership content and landscape analyses to support Pew’s new programmatic work. This may include coordination with communications, government relations, partnerships, and operations teams.

Provides support for the creation, implementation, and tracking of comprehensive external and internal communications strategies, plans, and tactics for major institutional efforts, including the department’s three-year external communications framework and related reporting; and intra-departmental communications and staff engagement.

Provides assistance for a range of special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, required.

Generally, one year of communications experience required, with media outreach experience preferred.

Excellent oral and writing skills to effectively communicate within and outside the organization.

Experience with media monitoring software systems, such as Cision and Nexis, and knowledge of Associated Press style and Salesforce a plus.

Demonstrated high attention to detail with strong performance in producing materials under deadline and without errors.

Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects and their related deadlines by maintaining a high level of organization and time management. Comfortable developing and moving projects forward with independence and autonomy.

Experience setting short- and long-term planning goals in line with program priorities and institutional procedures. A task-oriented style, with a focus on achieving clear and ambitious goals.

Strong interpersonal skills, able to develop and manage productive relationships with members of Pew’s communications, programmatic, and operations teams, consultants, and others involved in developing or implementing the communication efforts of Pew. Excellent listening skills. Able to work productively as part of a team and individually as well as with a wide array of different people throughout the institution.
