Job Title: Entry Level Budget SpecialistJob DescriptionWe are seeking a skilled Budget Specialist to join our Accounting & Finance Team. This full-time position operates Monday through Friday, 8am - 4pm, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch, totaling 35 hours a week. You will work closely with the Financial Analyst and Grants team, reporting directly to the CFO. The primary responsibility is to support the Agency’s financial needs by providing technical and financial support services. This role requires active participation in project work teams, taking the lead on certain projects, and utilizing your knowledge in accounting, budgeting, financial trend analysis, and reporting.Responsibilities
Develop initial budget templates for the preparation of new, renewal, or revised budgets.
Review internal budgets for approval, ensuring projections of staff allocations, other direct costs, occupancy allocations, and indirect costs according to OMB guidelines.
Verify all budget costs against payroll and historical financial records.
Coordinate with Department Heads/Program staff to ensure internal budgets are balanced before submission for final review.
Conduct budget analysis to prepare for budget revisions.
Formulate budget projections and make recommendations for adjustments and improvements.
Complete budget forms for renewal grant applications, new grant applications, budget revisions, and other funding requests.
Assist with accounts receivable as needed.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Minimum of two years of related accounting experience in a nonprofit agency
Strong Excel skills, including proficiency with pivot tables and macros
Basic knowledge of GAAP
Strong communication skills
Attention to detail
Ability to calculate and apply mathematical concepts
Proficiency in MS Office Suite
High degree of concentration and accuracy with adherence to strict confidentiality
Effective customer service and communication skills
Ability to multitask, problem solve, and take ownership of assignments
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business preferred
Three years of experience in analytical and problem-solving skills preferred
Understanding of Federal and State funding regulations preferred
Knowledge of budgeting development, finance, and payroll software preferred
Experience with non-profit organizations is a plus
Ability to integrate writing with financial reports to funders
Work EnvironmentThis position is based in an office setting. You will be using an ERP system, Blackbaud, and will work within a collaborative team environment.
