Maxar is currently seeking a Linux Systems Administratorto join our team in Westminster, CO. In this role, you will work on a diversified team supporting solutions in numerous operating domains, primarily in the USA. Our services are foundational to mission success and help us realize the opportunities we seek to harness our capabilities for a better world.

Life With Us

Support the Mission: We are responsible for the deployment and support of 24x7 runtime systems that help our Commercial and Government partners realize value in our unique solutions to problems that are global in scale. We provide Space Programs Delivery and Earth Intelligence services for customers ranging from startups to humanitarian organizations to Government intelligence markets.

Your Career: Maxar has an established customer base with existing infrastructure solutions and expects to continue to adapt to changing customer needs by exploring M&A activities and new technology development. In this role, you will focus on supporting on-premise infrastructure IT Linux systems, and exploring hybrid and cloud based operating models to better serve the needs of our partners. We operate at considerable scale (this is not your father's server room) both on-premise and in AWS and we are focused on growing competencies internally to support emerging technology trends. Team development, automation, cloud economics, and M&A integration are examples of opportunities to develop and distinguish yourself.

What Makes Us Different: Our Purpose. At every opportunity we seek to harness our capabilities for a better world. In previous years, we have been integral to neutralizing terrorist cells, freeing slaves, exposing genocide, maximizing agricultural yields, demonstrating and combatting the impacts of climate change, responding to natural disasters, predicting pandemic spread, and bringing communications to all parts of the globe. A lot of companies say they are going to change the world, but few can actually demonstrate that they have done it. When you wake up every day, you will help make a difference. The benefits are great, too, and include things like access to personal development resources, student loan forgiveness and tuition reimbursement.

Day-to-day responsibilities:
  • Work on a distributed team with infrastructure across the United States
  • Configure, deploy and administer Linux-based development and production environments
  • Architect and implement solutions for projects in both physical and virtual environments
  • Discuss, plan and coordinate activities related to upgrades, migrations and other maintenance
  • Participate in an On-Call rotation to support 24x7 operations

Minimum requirements for this position:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be willing and able to obtain U.S. Government security clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in related area. Four additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience
  • Advanced competencies with Linux operating systems, primarily RHEL, CentOS, and Ubuntu

These skills would be amazing:
  • Active U.S. Government security clearance
  • Competencies with Satellite 6, Puppet, and/or Foreman/Katello
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies
  • Competencies with automation and developer tools, primarily Ansible, GitHub, and Terraform
  • Previous experience with medium to large scale infrastructure installations
  • Previous experience working on a distributed team
  • Basic understanding of hardening systems, working in a STIG/ICD503/CIS environment, Security+ Cert
  • Experience with virtualization and platform technologies, VMWare, K8's, PCF, Docker
  • Experience with Storage Technologies at scale, NFS, SAN, VSAN
  • Knowledge of HPC platforms specifically Moab and xcat

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, age, or any other characteristic protected by law.
