The City of Thornton is seeking a graduate student Intern to assist with Records and Information Management duties. This position is perfect for students pursuing a degree in Library and Information Science, Archival Science, Information Management, or anything similar to these areas of study. We look forward to helping you build your professional experience in the field!
Under direction of the Records Program Administrator, the intern will support records management projects in various functions throughout the City. Duties include:
Scanning and indexing documents into the City's electronic records management system
Assisting employees in organizing records on shared drives, including identifying records for disposition
Assisting with physical file management in the City Clerk's Office
Assisting with creating employee training on various Records Information Management (RIM) topics
Assisting with reviewing and providing input on RIM topics
Work hours/ d ays : Flexible with school schedule. 10 hours p er w e ek during bu si n es s hou rs, M-F 8am to 5 pm .
Intern III :
This is the journey-level class in the Intern series .

Gathers data and related information for projects. Performs data analysis and reporting on assigned projects. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONSEducation/Experience:Intern III:Bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in specific department or progress toward completion of a master's degree in a related field.Licensing/Certification Requirements:May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the city of Thornton and the department.Knowledge and experience in the use of office equipment.Knowledge of data processing procedures.Knowledge of the principles and practices of conducting research.Skill in the use of standard office software.Skill in the use of Windows, Word and Excel programs.Skill in the use of the internet and on-line research.Ability to understand and interpret various forms of information.Ability to use conduct calculations and data manipulation for report purposes.Ability to draft documents.Ability to read, interpret and clearly explain policies to a variety of constituents.Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, elected officials, boards and commissions, other jurisdictions and members of the general public.Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences.Physical and Mental Requirements:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, kneel, squat, stoop, climb, crawl, repeatedly twist the upper body, talk, hear, see, demonstrate manual dexterity and perform light lifting. The employee is required to sit and perform duties requiring the use of repetitive motions for prolonged periods and to exercise visual concentration for extended periods.
