This position will be responsible for managing the data engineering functions (data warehousing, enterprise integrations, web/API services, business intelligence), and the Oracle development functions that support NREL operations and mission requirements. Position will be primarily remote with the occasional need to be onsite in Golden, CO.Duties shall include:· Manage and lead a large, diverse, remote team of architects, developers, engineers, analysts, and administrators with a broad scope of work with high impact to the laboratory.· Hire, retain and develop exceptional staff dedicated to the support and advancement of NREL's mission.· Partner with Enterprise Solutions Management Team, Solutions Architecture, and Project Managers on intake of new work, architectural review and standards validation, resource allocation, and project execution and closeout.· Build proactive business partnerships with, and become a trusted advisor to NREL centers and offices, acting as a partner to organizations and staff at all levels of the laboratory.· Closely collaborate with peers in solutions engineering and support, application development, project management, business and data analysis, devops, client and infrastructures services, service delivery, and cyber security to produce sustainable solutions aligned with NREL’s data, infrastructure, and security requirements.· Effectively communicate work expectations to leadership, team members, and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion. Where required, manage escalations associated with project/system decisions impacting policy or political perspectives.· Establish and abide by standards, policies, and procedures that reinforce the software development lifecycle, NREL IT standards, and industry best practices.· Manage team budget up to $5M including labor, subcontracts, operational expenses, and licensing requirements.· Work with customer leadership and staff to understand business needs and assist in aligning technology solutions with NREL's business strategies.· Partner with ITS management to understand capabilities and compliance requirements, participating in vulnerability management/cyber operations activities ensuring the stability and security of NREL's IT solutions.· Establish a high-level understanding of existing applications and enterprise data to understand impacts of actions across departments or systems.· Communicate strategy, design, and solution decisions to non-technical and technical staff and management across the laboratory.· Remain current on emerging technologies that align with NREL's research and enterprise solution needs to inform future IT strategy and budget requests.· Support and participate in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEI&A) activities by seeking first to understand through active listening, soliciting feedback, valuing, and incorporating diverse perspectives into the work and team environmentBasic QualificationsPrevious management and budget adherence experience may be required. Degree in appropriate field is required. Demonstrated knowledge of legal and ethical management issues and practices. In-depth knowledge of the issues and best practices in the applicable field of expertise. Generally viewed as subject matter expert for group or work units. Excellent organization, project management, budgeting, interpersonal and communication skills. Proven problem-solving and negotiation skills. Demonstrated ability to make appropriate decisions regarding work activities and projects. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and direct personnel with diverse skills, work styles and values.
