Summary:

The School Bus Driver is responsible for safely operating a school bus along assigned routes while ensuring passenger safety and adhering to all Federal, State, and District regulations. The role involves managing passenger conduct, including students with disabilities, and assisting with loading and unloading, especially for those in wheelchairs.

Key Responsibilities:

Drive school bus safely, following all rules and safety protocols.

Monitor and manage passenger behavior, ensuring the safety of all passengers.

Assist passengers, including loading/unloading wheelchairs and securing safety equipment.

Conduct routine inspections and ensure buses are clean and properly maintained.

Prepare and submit required reports and records.

Respond to emergencies, breakdowns, or accidents promptly.

Perform other assigned duties, including weekend or night trips.

Qualifications:

Experience: No prior experience required; experience with children or prior bus/truck driving preferred.

Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

Must be 21 years old and hold a valid Colorado driver's license.

Must obtain CDL and relevant endorsements after district training.

CPR/First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.

Skills/Abilities:

Ability to operate school buses, wheelchair lifts, and other related equipment.

Physical capacity to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks involving sitting, standing, and occasional climbing.

Strong communication, safety awareness, and organizational skills.

Work Environment:

Exposure to mechanical parts, weather conditions, fumes, and loud noise.
