Project Description:

Meridiam Partners is seeking a qualified safety coordinator for a challenging project in Southern Colorado. The project is expected to last 5 to 6 months and involves earth moving activities for a stringent client.

Salary commensurate with experience and reports directly to the Meridiam Partners Director of Health & Safety.

Essential Functions:

Implementing, health and safety procedures to comply with client and regulatory requirements.

Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification: Conducting thorough risk assessments and hazard identification to identify potential health and safety risks in the workplace. This includes evaluating work processes, machinery, equipment, chemicals, and other factors that may pose risks to employees.

Safety Training and Education: Planning and delivering health and safety training programs for employees at all levels. This includes conducting new employee orientation, organizing regular safety meetings, and providing ongoing support to project personnel.

Incident Investigation and Reporting: Leading investigations into workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and develop strategies for prevention. Ensuring proper documentation of incidents and reporting to project management.

Safety Audits and Inspections: Conducting regular safety audits and inspections to assess compliance with health and safety policies and identify areas for improvement. Developing corrective action plans and monitoring their implementation.

Emergency Preparedness and Response: Maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, emergency communication systems, and employee training.

Safety Culture Promotion: Promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization by fostering employee engagement, participation, and ownership in health and safety initiatives. Encouraging reporting of safety concerns and rewarding positive safety behaviors.

Collaboration and Communication: Collaborating with management, supervisors, and employees to integrate health and safety practices into all aspects of the project. Communicating health and safety objectives, expectations, and updates to ensure a consistent and coordinated approach.

Safety Qualifications:

Must have an instructor signed OSHA 30-hour course completion.

o As an equivalent, formal construction or industry safety & health training covering the subjects of the OSHA 30-hour class and the EM 385-1-1 standard. The course may have been web bases providing the student was directly connected with the facilitator and could ask questions.

The candidate must provide 5-years of continuous construction industrial safety experience in supervising / managing general safety programs or processing or conducting hazard analysis and developing controls. Or, have 5 years of continuous general safety experience in supervising / managing general safety programs or processing or conducting hazard analysis and developing controls.

If the candidate has an approved Third-Party Accredited certification, only 4 years’ experience is required.

The candidate must provide evidence of maintaining competency through taking 8 hours of documented formal or online training annually. Examples a class, reading/writing professional articles, attendance/participation in professional societies or meetings.

The candidate must be familiar with OHSAS structured safety programs and MSHA 30 CFR Health and Safety Standards, or have the ability learn in a reasonable time frame.

The candidate must be willing to spend 80% of the time in the field and must be comfortable and effective interacting with field personnel.

The candidate must demonstrate pride, professionalism, and effective leadership at all times.

The candidate must be competent with Micro Soft programs, such as MS Word, Excell and Power Point.

This position is conditional based on the client’s acceptance of qualifications and the duration of the project.
