Description of JobAbout the Work UnitExecutive and Capitol Security provides 24-hour security at the State Capitol and Capitol Complex, and security for the Governor, First Family, visiting dignitaries, and public demonstrations. About the JobPositions ensure that state buildings are secure 24 hours a day seven days a week. Conduct interior and exterior security tours of state buildings. Identify unauthorized personnel and problems such as fire, water leaks, vandalism, etc. Interact with authorities and tenants in emergency situations. Provide services to tenants that include; unlocking doors, after hour escorts to a private vehicle, flying ceremonial flags. Operate the magnetometers and x-ray screening machines at the Judicial Building and the State Capitol. To provide a safe and secure environment for all tenants and the general public who work or visit state-operated building within the Capitol Complex.

Conduct interior and exterior security tours of state buildings and surrounding grounds on foot or, in a vehicle. Screening of person/packages for buildings with the Capitol Complex that has these security measures in place. Identify problem areas and unauthorized personnel. Identify alarms indicating possible fire, water leaks, or other problems relating to state property. Identify safety hazards. Provide services to tenants such as after-hours escorts to vehicles for Capitol Complex tenants. Submit work orders to the DPA maintenance staff relating to various items such as burned-out lights, inoperative locks, leaking faucets that could lead to flooding to name a few. Report any unusual or suspicious activity throughout the Capitol Complex. Secure all exterior entrances, dock doors, windows, etc. Follow up with periodic checks throughout the shift to ensure that all buildings remain secure Perform both single and tandem patrol in a mostly self-supervised atmosphere.

Must be familiar with all security systems in the command center. Must be able to multi-task between answering phones and radio dispatch.

Interact with police/fire/maintenance personnel in emergency situations. Be able to notify the proper support personnel.

Lower State and National flags at the Judicial Building and State Capitol as required. Process all orders for specially requested flags at Capitol and ensure proper handling of the same.

Maintain all issued security equipment to ensure the proper functioning of equipment at all times.

Must be willing to drive a State vehicle to the State Patrol Academy as part of your job duties.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal RightsNOTE: To be considered for this position, you must meet one of the following options for consideration.Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be a current Colorado State resident. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Requires a valid Colorado Driver's license.

Must be willing to take job-related formal training courses.

This position includes physical demands that include: vision, hearing, stooping, standing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and ability to walk up and down the stairs.

This position operates 24 hr/ 7 days a week. You will be required to work day shift, swing shift, and graveyard shifts.

Applicants must be willing and able to pass an extensive background investigation that includes a polygraph examination and drug testing. Hired employees are subject to random drug testing.

The background investigation is based on the following criteria, including but not limited to: driving history, criminal behavior/history, alcohol use/behavior, drug use/behavior, and integrity. If you omit any material fact on your application, testing materials, or during the background interview or polygraph, you may be disqualified.

If any disqualifying information is discovered at any stage of the selection process, you may be removed from consideration. If you fail to follow instructions during the polygraph exam you may be removed from the process.

Position may require occasional travel to the State Patrol Academy.

Requires successful completion of a background investigation that includes a polygraph exam, drug screen & fingerprint based criminal history search.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED

Previous customer service experience.

Ability to pay attention to detail, being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.

Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong while on duty.

Excellent listening skills and an ability to follow multi-step directions with attention to detail.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Provide customer service that is mutually acceptable to job order and customer while still being efficient with time management.

The ability to problem-solve and know when to go to supervisors with questions or concerns.
