applications for a tenure-track assistant professor, beginning Fall 2024.
Applicants should have a demonstrated research specialization in critical race
feminisms/womanisms and/or queer of color critiques. DU's GWST program
is dedicated to helping students understand how gender interacts with other
identities; we have long been committed to teaching our students how systems
of power, privilege, and oppression intersect, including how they
intersect with structural and systemic racism.Applications are sought from candidates with a strong record of research,
teaching, and community-engagement in gender studies, queer studies,
ethnic studies, or a related field. Areas of specialization are open, but
preference will be given to candidates whose research and teaching will
complement the interdisciplinary work of the other faculty in the program and
that centers upon the intersections of gender/sexuality and critical
race/ethniSuccessful research and teaching in the interdisciplinary field of gender and
women's studies are required. The course load is six courses per year,
across three quarters, which will include general education courses, as
well as major courses like "Introduction to Gender and Women's
Studies," "Feminist Qualitative Research Methods" and substantive GWST
electives based on the candidate's research expertise. The ideal candidate
demonstrates experience and versatility in inclusive pedagogy. We are
especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to
diversity, equity and inclusion through their teaching, research, and service.Essential FunctionsAbility to teach six undergraduate classes over three quarters over the
academic year, including a combination of general education courses and
major-related electives in the candidate's specialty area. The courses will
be a mixture of introductory courses and smaller upper-level courses. The
candidate will also be expected to maintain an active research agenda that
contributes to the field of Gender and Women's Studies, as well as service
to the Gender and Women's Studies Program, the College of Arts,
Humanities and Social Sciences, and the university.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Expertise in Gender/Queer/Ethnic studies or a related field
Evidence of an active scholarship and research agenda
The ability to teach a range of required courses, including our
introductory GWST course and elective course offerings in their areas of
expertise
Excellent communication skills for classroom teaching and student mentoring
Dem nstrated commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds
Willingness to engage in and mentor students through research and
internships
The desire to meaningfully contribute to the Gender and Women's Studies
Program and university community.
Required Qualifications
PhD in gender and women's studies, ethnic studies, or a related field
completed by position start date
Demonstrated research in gender studies, queer studies, ethnic
studies, or a related field
Record of excellence and effectiveness teaching gender and women's
studies, ethnic studies, or a related field for 1-3 years ( this can
include independent courses taught as a PhD student)
Preferred Qualifications
Evidence of an active research agenda
Record of excellence and effectiveness teaching gender and women's
studies, ethnic studies or related field for 3+ years.
Experience teaching courses that attract undergraduate students.
Experience in designing courses for effective student learning.
Experience and accomplishments in active support of diversity, equity,
and inclusion in teaching and research / scholarship
Evidence of pursuing professional development in scholarship and teaching
Work Schedule
While the University's administrative offices are open Monday - Friday,
8:00 am - 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are
based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The
University's academic calendars are posted on the registrar's website
(the law school is on a semester system and has a different academic
calendar).
