Route Supervisor

Omega Transport, a privately owned mail delivery company, is seeking a dedicated Mail Route Supervisor to join our team. In this role, you will oversee the daily operations of multiple delivery locations across Northern California. Responsibilities include supervising drivers, training new employees, and ensuring all delivery routes are completed safely and on time. The Route Supervisor will also step in to cover routes when needed, while enforcing company and customer policies.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, excellent communication, organizational skills, and the ability to solve problems under pressure. Attention to detail, safety awareness, and reliability are essential. A clean driving record and dependable transportation are required.

This position requires availability Monday through Saturday, with flexibility to monitor routes until all are completed. Weekend work may also be required. The Route Supervisor will report directly to the company Owner.

- Mail Contractor Route Supervisor

Pre-Shift (Before Routes Begin)

Review USPS dispatch times and route assignments

Check driver attendance & staffing for all scheduled routes

Verify driver qualifications & credentials (CDL, DOT card, USPS badge)

Inspect vehicles (fuel, maintenance, cleanliness, required safety equipment)

Conduct pre-trip safety checks and log inspections

Ensure mail containers, trays, and equipment are ready for load-out

Distribute route manifests & USPS-specific instructions

Hold pre-shift briefing (safety reminders, weather/traffic updates, route changes)

Confirm on-time departure for each route

During Shift (While Routes Are in Progress)

Monitor route progress via GPS tracking systems

Ensure time-sensitive mail is prioritized

Handle USPS dispatch communication for delays or issues

Assist drivers with detours, weather, or mechanical breakdowns

Log any late departures/arrivals for compliance tracking

Reassign routes if a driver is unavailable mid-shift

Document and report safety incidents or delays to management

Assist on route when needed

Manage the day-to-day delivery objective to 100% compliance of the goals set forth.

· Ability to perform the physical labor aspect of the job as necessary

· Lift 75+ lbs. bulk items repetitively.

End of Shift (After Routes Return)

Confirm all mail is delivered or returned per USPS protocol

Collect signed paperwork

Inspect returned vehicles for cleanliness, damage, or maintenance needs

Log end-of-day vehicle mileage and fuel usage

Note any operational or safety issues for follow-up

Submit daily performance reports (on-time %, late trips, exceptions)

Prepare preliminary route assignments for the next day

Weekly / Ongoing Responsibilities

Review route performance data and identify improvement areas (ghost rides, GPS audit Reports, meeting with customer, Conducting driver meetings.)

Conduct driver safety and compliance refreshers

Coordinate with USPS managers on scheduling changes

Coordinate with Repair vendor for vehicle Maintenace

Ensure all vehicle maintenance logs are up to date

Audit driver timecards and route logs for accuracy

Assist management with hiring new drivers.

Maintaining employee files (write up’s, contact info etc.)

· Keep up to date on overall activities of the team, identify problem areas and take corrective action

· Appraise performance; oversee driver reward program

· Maintain employee timecards and employee notes

· Assist with some administrative tasks

Monitors productivity, service, and safety for each route and driver

Qualification

High School diploma or General education degree

Must possess a valid California driver’s license.

Clean DMV record.

Be at least 21 years of age.

2-4 years related experience and / or training in transportation and / or delivery field.

Must have previous verifiable experience as a team leader/ or supervisor.

Basic computer skills needed.

· Excellent verbal; written communication skills.

· Must always be able to work flexible schedules including weekends, holidays and be available to address operational issues by phone.

Background screening will be performed prior to start of employment.
