Primary Objective
Under general direction of the Transportation Route Supervisor, the Delivery Driver is responsible for the transportation of bakery products to point-of-sales; performs a variety of transportation related activities; maintains records; performs a variety of financial and service functions; and does related work as required.
Job Functions and Responsibilities
The essential job functions and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Observes all store rules and company & department policies
Maintains a neat, well-groomed personal appearance, wears shirts and jackets with branded logo and observes company dress policy
Adheres to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
Load and unloads van or truck with bakery products
Drives company vehicle to assigned locations, which may vary from time to time
Requires ability to drive on highways
Checks orders being delivered for accuracy
Gets receipt for product delivery
Receives and transports all daily cash receipts and records to the company office on a daily basis
Reports on condition of delivered products
Keeps vans and trucks clean inside and out
Returns all empty trays, tins, and boxes used to transport product daily
Complies with safety policies and procedures
Performs other duties and assignments as directed
Merchandising
Keeps display cases and other merchandising areas stocked and properly faced in accordance with customer policies
Displays merchandise in an attractive manner
Removes prior days product from active storage areas for appropriate credit
Notifies manager of low inventory conditions or excessive product spoilage
Keeps packaged goods loaded on vehicle. This way orders can be submitted as needed

Ability to begin work promptly at assigned time for each route you are doing that day
Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as credits
Ability to hear, speak and understand the spoken word in order to respond promptly to customer inquiries, to accommodate verbal requests from customers for information or assistance, and to be able to communicate effectively with co-workers and customers
Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and understand the English language with sufficient proficiency in order to read and understand:
o company handbooks, policies and procedures
o invoices, credit memos, and other delivery documentation
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in circumstances where only limited standardization may exist
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described below are representative of those needed to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Load boxes onto the delivery truck and unload them at each stop. Loading requires significant bending and lifting of boxes of up to 50 pounds
Ability to climb in and out of the delivery van
Ability to drive for a minimum of 50% of the required work day which is approximately 5 to 7 hours per day, or more if needed
Ability to maneuver delivery cart up and down steps and ramps at some locations
While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit; stand; and use the hands to handle, finger, or feel objects, tools or controls
The incumbent must frequently walk, talk or hear, and reach with the hands and arms; occasionally, the employee must crouch or kneel
The incumbent must frequently exert or lift up to 40 pounds of packaged bakery products
Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision and the ability to adjust focus including sufficient visual acuity to check and verify invoices and other written documents
Have sufficient physical mobility or agility to be able to respond quickly to fire or other emergencies
Ability to tolerate moderate amounts of dust and chemical fumes from common transportation elements
Have sufficient memory retention skills to monitor and keep track of customers, product counts, invoices, shortages, and to record discrepancies immediately on invoices and other documents
Work Environment
The work environment conditions described below are representative of those the incumbent encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
The work environment includes occasional exposure to, in, or around refrigerated storage areas and relatively damp and humid conditions
The work environment includes occasional exposure to heated ovens and high temperatures
The atmospheric environment may occasionally contain airborne particles of flour, spices and other finely powdered ingredients and frequent aromatic odors
Typically, the noise level in the work environment is moderate
Desired Education and Experience
High school education or equivalent and one year previous experience in working with the public in a commercial endeavor
Knowledge of basic record keeping
Experience storing or issuing supplies or materials, and delivery of products
A valid California driver’s license and the ability to provide a recent DMV printout report
