I NEED A SERVICE ADVISOR / AUTO SHOP MANAGER

Hello, my name is Michael and I run Reliable Auto Repair in South San Jose. My intention is to write a straight forward and easy to understand job ad with no corporate nonsense. Our company has had had great luck connecting with the right people by being honest and upfront in everything we do, so if you appreciate the direct approach, you might be our person!

I need one individual that is an amazing service advisor that can also manage the auto shop. Here is a literal summarized description of what exactly that means:

Come in Monday thru Friday at 7:45 AM.

Have a 5-minute meeting with the crew about all the appointments coming in for the day on a whiteboard that was written up the previous day.

For the next 9 hours you are responsible for preparing estimates, writing up repair orders for customers, assigning work to the technicians, ordering parts, organizing parts, scheduling returns, ordering shop supplies, selling repairs that the technicians find, answering the phone, calling customers for pickups, and billing them out.

At 5PM you make sure everyone is clocked out, help put the cars inside the garage, and go home.

You would be responsible for 4 technicians, 4 bays, and one alignment rack with an average of about 10 cars a day.

I have systems in place that would help you to get all this work done faster such as canned jobs, pre-developed inspections, and have trained the technicians on how to do proper inspections where their tablets are integrated into the shop computer.

DO NOT CALL ME IF:

You do not know how to work on cars / how cars are worked on – not being able to do it professionally is OK, however if you are selling something that you have no idea how to do / how it will be done please avoid responding.

You have to look at the keyboard when you type – this job is very fast paced and we don’t have time to waste.

You do not know how to create a PDF and email it as an attachment – the majority of the job revolves around the computer so tech literacy is a must.

You are not able to switch focus between multiple tasks – you will frequently have to put a customer on hold over the phone, to talk to a technician, while a parts delivery driver is waiting for you to write a check, while a customer comes in to pick up their car.

You are not a good listener when it comes to dealing with customers – people bring their cars here because of the relationship and trust we’ve built over the years. The individual who talks over people is the exact opposite of what we’re about.

CALL ME IF:

You have been a service advisor, service manager, or ran an auto shop for a minimum of 5 years before – I need someone who has a solid baseline of automotive knowledge and knows how to run an auto shop.

You have an excellent memory – nothing kills sales or shop morale when the same questions have to be asked over and over.

You take pride in your reputation and want your coworkers and customers to respect you and your abilities – you will be the first person customers interact with and it is important that you actually care to be helpful and make a good impression.

You are a good salesperson and know what you’re talking about when it comes to vehicles – One time I heard a service advisor tell a customer that she needed a power steering fluid flush because “it’s good for left and right” and I cringed so hard I think I pulled fractured my neck – please be the opposite of that.

I’m basically looking for someone who is capable of running their own auto repair business but does not want the headache of doing so. You must be friendly, helpful, witty, and very quick on your feet in order to get the cars in and out as fast as possible while making sure that employees and customers are tended to in the best ways possible. A polished physical appearance is also very important to show customers that we are a serious shop, and being able to smile and make people feel welcomed is necessary.

This job is not easy and it takes a lot of consistent paying attention and is not an office job where you play on your phone for the entirety of the day. I will not drop you in the middle of the business and abandon you, I will take the time to train, teach, and mentor the right applicant to make sure that you succeed to my standards.

Starting pay is 85k a year. Probationary period is 3 months. We have full dental, vision, and health insurance coverage and matching 401k plans.

Call Michael at 408-230-2952 and let me know what you’re about. Let's talk soon thank you!
