I am looking for an ambitious Carpenter/Construction professional, with a lot of experience in residential remodeling and some new construction/custom home building, from foundation to finish. You are probably someone who wants to get their own license at some point and start your own business. You should have excellent carpentry skills, along with all the tools necessary to use the skills you have.
a. You understand layout and math and can square up a foundation over long distances.
b. You understand how to layout floor framing with consideration of what may be required by other trades.
c. You can layout walls with all window and door openings, with and eye for what is right, not just what is on the plans.
d. You can cut and stack a roof using production techniques and math.
e. You can cut a set of stairs using math and production techniques.
f. You understand what is important when you are doing framing and don't tweak out over 1/32s of an inch.
g. If you are not already doing it, you are open to learning some production framing methods.
f. You can produce clean finish work.
g. You can order and use materials without producing lot's of wasted material or extra trips to the lumber yard
You should also have good people skills and be comfortable talking with clients and supervising other people on the job site, including passing on skills and knowledge to those working below you. If you are an arguer or someone who is not open to other peoples ideas and ways of doing things, this is probably not a good fit for you. You can take direction an implement a plan, as directed by the contractor or anyone else supervising you, with out a lot of push back If you have great carpentry skills, but poor people skills, this won't be a good fit.
I am at the point where I really want to find someone that I can put on the job and know that everything is being handled without my having to worry about it or check up on the job constantly. I have been a contractor for more than 30 years and I have no problem finding work. Most of the work that I do is higher end remodeling, for clients who are appreciative and fun to work for. Occasionally we will also build a cool house or do a small commercial job. When I first started out, I had really good mentors, who taught me a lot, not only about carpentry, but also about business. Ultimately, I would like to do the same for someone who is interested in learning and willing to put in the time to do it.
All the work I do is in Petaluma or on the outskirts. No job is more than 15 minutes from the center of town and we don't commute anywhere. This is a good opportunity for someone local who does not want to be burning a lot of $5.00 a gallon gas. I currently have a nice modern home to build in Petaluma from the ground up. The permit should be ready in a couple weeks.
Please respond only with an email outlining your experience and why you think you would be a good fit for this opportunity. Please do not just send a resume without responding with some words pertinent to this ad. If we get further in to this references and verifiable employment history will be necessary. Thanks!
