Cross Cultured Foods PBC d/b/a Tezza Foods seeks a Scientist, Product Development in Oakland, CA.

Responsibilities: The Scientist, Product Development is responsible for developing new methods for testing and making cheeses, informing the improvement of manufacturing methods, and building the process foundations for the scaling of better tasting and more cost-efficient products. Duties include: Designing, developing, and executing systems for higher-throughput experimental cheesemaking; Working closely with Tezza Foods’ science team to shape upstream experiments, and design and execute product and process experiments; Conferring with process engineers, plant operators, flavor experts, and packaging and marketing specialists to resolve problems in product development; Creating systems for collecting sensory and analytical data to refine and develop methods for characterizing chemical composition, flavor, color, texture, and nutritional value; Ensuring regulatory and scientific best practices are followed and maintained in order to adhere to government and industry standards; and other duties as assigned. Salary range $120,000 - $150,000.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Agricultural Science, Food Engineering, or a related field (or foreign equivalent).

Requirements: 5 years of experience in the job offered or related. Other special requirements include: 5 years of experience working with food ingredients and manufacturing processes to ensure compliance; 5 years of experience utilizing formulation software to create and update internal product development systems; 5 years of experience analyzing consumer feedback to assist in the development of new product items; and 5 years of experience refining and developing methods for characterizing chemical composition, flavor, color, texture, and nutritional value.
