McCampbell Analytical, Inc. (MAI) is a full-service environmental analytical laboratory located in Pittsburg, CA (SF Bay Area). MAI is seeking an intermediate to senior-level aquatic toxicology scientist with experience as a group or department leader.

Job Overview:

We are seeking a full-time intermediate to senior-level Aquatic Toxicology Scientist with the capability to lead, co-lead, or be a group leader within our aquatic toxicology department. Qualified candidates are required to have a minimum of 4 years of experience in an aquatic toxicology lab, expertise in aquatic bench testing, proficiency in report writing, and the use of CETIS software for statistical evaluation of test data.

Responsibilities and Duties:

This position is responsible for managing multiple staff and laboratory tests in a dynamic work environment, communicating with clients, evaluating statistics, and generating reports. The candidate will coordinate with supervisors in the maintenance of biological tests, organism husbandry, preparing standards, calibration of equipment, analyses of samples, washing glassware, and general laboratory maintenance and cleaning.

Any analyses performed are done in accordance with prescribed EPA or ASTM methods and based on department protocols.

Desired Qualifications:

A four-year or higher college degree in aquatic toxicology, marine biology, ecology, or another closely related environmental science discipline.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Teamwork-driven personality with a strong work ethic and desire to consistently learn in the aquatic toxicology field.

Project management experience: designing and managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability to communicate effectively with clients regarding how to interpret bioassay testing results

NPDES Permitting: Familiarity with interpreting NPDES permits and understanding compliance requirements.

Statistical analysis of aquatic toxicity testing data using CETIS software.

Familiarity with CA Toxicity Provisions and statistical analyses, and testing requirements (TST analyses).

Familiarity with species screening requirements for freshwater and marine dischargers.

Standard freshwater and marine USEPA Whole Effluent Toxicity Testing protocols, including methods listed in the West Coast Marine Manual.

Experience conducting freshwater and marine sediment bioassays.

Familiarity with the California Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program, Irrigated Lands Regulatory Program, and Delta Regional Monitoring Program is a plus.

Experience conducting Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III Toxicity Identification Evaluations (TIEs) is a plus.
