The Contra Costa County Health Services Department has two excellent employment opportunities for full-time Network Technician IIs assigned primarily to the Health Services Information Technology Unit located in Concord, CA with occasional deployment to remote sites for installation and end user troubleshooting.

Contra Costa Health Services includes a Health Plan, Public Health, Hazardous Materials, Environmental Health, Housing Homeless and Health, Regional Medical Center, Behavioral Health, Emergency Management Services and a full complement of ambulatory care sites including school-based services.

Installing testing and configuring network hardware and software.

Providing timely updates to tickets and JIRA project tasks.

Contacting vendors for components, technical references, and/or services required for network expansion and maintenance.

Continuing education and learning.

Occasionally assisting with troubleshooting after hours even when not officially on-call.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future openings for up to six (6) months. The eligible list from this recruitment may also be used for countywide openings.

Minimum Qualifications:

License Requirement: Candidates must possess and maintain throughout the duration of employment a valid California motor vehicle operator’s license. Out-of-state valid motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the application process.

Any combination of education, experience, and certifications that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Education: Possession of an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university with a major in computer science or information processing OR completion of 24 semester units or 36 quarter units in computer science or information systems

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time experience performing and/or coordinating information systems support and equipment installation duties which included responsibility for troubleshooting and resolution of network problems.

Certifications: Professional certifications such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), AZ-900: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST) or other similar credentials.

Desirable Qualifications:

CNAA Certification

Experience with Cisco ACI/Data Center, Aruba Wireless, IPAM / Visio Documentation, Palo Alto firewall, and WhatsUp Gold monitoring and tuning

Microsoft Azure Training

Online Multiple-Choice Assessment: Candidates who possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in an online multiple-choice assessment. The assessment will be conducted online to measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the Network Technician II classification. These may include but are not limited to: Critical Thinking, Professional and technical Expertise, Attention to Detail, and Customer Focus. Candidates must receive a score of at least 70%, which may be an adjusted score, in order to be ranked on the employment list. (Weighted 100%).

TENTATIVE DATES

Online Multiple-Choice Test: 10/28/2024

The assessment will be administered remotely using a computer. You will need access to a reliable internet connection to take the assessment.

If you apply for another recruitment that uses this exam and the test is scheduled within six (6) months of the date you took the test this time, you will not have the option to re-take the exam. If more than six (6) months has passed you will need to retake the exam.

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.

CONVICTION HISTORY

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
